What the Colts' recent injuries mean for the Titans

When I first observed the Titans 2021 schedule, it definitely looked daunting. I'll probably make a post about the schedule at a later date. To be perfectly fair the schedule STILL looks pretty daunting, but some recent events within the AFC South have made the division look ripe for the Titans taking.

The Titans main foe on paper heading into the 2021-22 season is clearly the Indianapolis Colts. Like always. Of course you never know if the Texans or the Jags come outta nowhere. The Jags did draft a very good QB prospect in Trevor Lawrence which makes me slightly nervous. But unless that happens the main AFC South team on the mind of the Titans is the Colts. It's basically a two horse race between the Colts and the Titans for the AFC South.

Well, perhaps it WAS a two horse race....

In the past week, the Colts have had two pretty major injuries. The injuries themselves aren't overly nasty but the timing of the injuries and the particular players that are injured make this a pretty devastating situation in Indy.

BOTH newly acquired QB Carson Wentz and their elite guard Quenton Nelson BOTH are undergoing foot surgery for pretty similar foot injuries. Apparently they're both having an expendable bone removed and then having a tendon re-attached to a different bone. Or something like that anyway.

From what I understand, the recovery can take anywhere between 5-12 weeks. A pretty wide margin. Maybe the Colts are simply playing competitive mind games with other teams in the league? That'd be bold. But who knows I guess.

The Colts felt that they had a team that could make a run, this does not help anything there. Both players would like to return for Week One, but it's unlikely they both will be ready then. That scenario seems highly unlikely. Even if that were to happen, they would still face many challenges.

They could obviously re-injur themselves. Feet are pretty essential for anybody, let alone professional athletes in a contact sport. Not only that, but they would very unlikely be in legit good football shape by then.

These injuries could really ruin the Colts' season.

How this impacts the Titans?

Well it doesn't really take a rocket scientist to figure out how this could benefit the Titans.

In a perfect scenario the Texans and the Jags suck as bad as they did last season, and these injuries derail the Colts' season which then, makes the Colts also suck.

If this situation indeed ends up occurring in reality, then that would be huge. As I said the Titans have got a pretty tough schedule coming up this season, a season that already has been extended by a game. If the Titans can go 6-0 in their division, that would be epic. It would virtually guarantee a division championship, and then the team can just focus on the tougher games and reaching the highest seed possible for their Super Bowl run.

Yeah I know it's lame to be happy about people suffering, but I mean I am just a sports fan, give me a break. In the grand scheme of things, they're multi-millionaires, so I think in the end they'll be ok unless they're terrible with money or some crap.

Of course, I hope the Titans just stay focused and play the divisional teams tough.

I can't wait for some Titans football let's go!!
