Twitch channels that used copyrighted music will begin to be removed

Possibly and surely, Twitch and YouTube are the two video platforms par excellence, the most used and attended by users, and especially by lovers of the video game world. And it is that both have become the work of numerous players who have become so-called "content creators". While on YouTube we can see recorded videos of our favorite youtubers, on Twitch we will witness live broadcasts carried out by numerous renowned streamers. However, many of these users will see how their channel closes...

At times, we have seen how the platform has banned some recognized players like Elmiillor, but now it will be something different. Recently, on the Twitch website itself, we can see an update on the music that streamers can use. As many of you may know, one of the most attractive features of this platform is that players could play third-party music without being negatively affected by this action, unlike YouTube, for example. However, that will change and channels that do not comply with the following guidelines may receive a notice and even be removed.

¿What music can you use?

Music that is your property

The original music that you have written and that you have recorded or reproduced live, as long as it is your property or you control all the necessary rights to share it on Twitch, including the recording and reproduction rights, both on the music and on the letters that compose it. Remember that if you have a contractual relationship with an organization that controls the rights to the content you have created, such as a record label or publishing company, you must ensure that you do not violate that agreement when you share that music on Twitch.

Music for which you are licensed

You can share music on Twitch whose copyright is owned by someone other than you, in whole or in part, as long as that person has given you a license to share it.

Performances on Twitch Sing

You can cast a song you sing on Twitch Sings as long as you follow the Twitch Terms of Service.

¿What music can't you use?

Radio-style music programs

A Twitch stream or VoD that focuses on playing music other than yours, and for which you are not licensed to share on Twitch.

DJ session

Playing or mixing prerecorded music tracks that incorporate music that you do not own or that you do not have rights to share on Twitch.

Karaoke performance

Singing or acting on a karaoke recording that does not fit a licensed game for you to share on Twitch, such as a Twitch Sings performance.

Playbacks

Sing or pretend or pretend you sing a song that is not yours or that you do not have a license to share on Twitch.

Music visual description

Lyrics, music transcription, tablature, or any other visual representation of copyrighted music that is not yours or not licensed to share on Twitch. You also cannot include on-screen lyrics or descriptions of music provided by Twitch as part of Twitch Sings or that you captured on broadcast or VoD of your performances on Twitch Sings.

Song version representations

Play a song that is owned by someone else, except for a live performance on your Twitch broadcast. If you cover a song on a live Twitch broadcast, be sure to play it back as the author wrote it and create all the audio elements yourself, not including instrumental tracks, music recordings, or other recorded elements owned by others.

In this way, they insist that if you have content on your Twitch channel with third-party music, you must eliminate it and thus not assimilate possible and future risks. This, logically, will be something very annoying for those streamers who have had content for years and numerous videos behind them with music, since they should erase everything.

This happens with popularity. Owners of the music want paid if the person using it is getting paid (at least in these cases). They can put pressure on the platform (YouTube, Twitch, etc) to put in blocks when their music is used (and can run ads on videos that use their music - them collecting the revenue - not you).

Nintendo took it one step farther and claimed ownership over content created using their graphics, particularly in-game content. They claimed people recording gameplay was basically a movie using their assets therefore they owned it.

YouTube sided with them.

I make the occasional video and thanks to music copyright claims I have started muting the audio and only allowing sound effects to play. It is annoying but this, to me, is effectively advertising for the game company. I am not sure about others but money I make from my content is put back into buying more games and movies so I can make more content. On a small scale, stopping that circle is only hurting themselves.
