Is it impossible to pay the €700m clause?

There was so much gist about Messi leaving Barcelona after the team's 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

It does hurt to be beaten in the game of football and Messi being on a squad that was thrashed that bad, decided to pull the exit card but got slammed with a €700m clause that is impossible to settle.
The Argentine and the entire Camp Nou team, players, owners and fans were humiliated by that humbling 8-2 win.

Blessed!

I guess there is a price to pay for being the awesome Lionel Messi. The game of transfer isn't working to his favor and one can say, he is owned by Barcelona for life?

Lots of clubs around the world would shell out the big bucks to land Messi and, Manchester City was the club that was highly mentioned to scoop Messi from Barca, but they didn't get that chance and it is left to be seen if the six-time Ballon d'Or winner will be moving anytime soon.

The story making the round is that, there is no way he can leave the club unless on a free transfer which was on the table but later taken off.
In his word:

"I thought and was sure that I was free to leave. The president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I stayed or not."
"Now I am going to continue because the president told me that the only way to leave was to pay the €700m clause, and this is impossible."

The Argentine looks and sounds like he has been cornered by the club he has represented for all his life. The €700m clause set to enable him leave Camp Nou is impossible and very expensive making him a no go area even for the clubs that will be willing to have him.

Do you think Messi should leave Barca?
Is the €700m clause a deliberate act to tie him down?
Do you think Messi is worth the €700m clause placed on him?
Will the Premier League be any better with a Messi on its soil?
Which club do you think Manchester City will be a good fit for Messi?
