When Block Acts Like A Strike

When you practice martial arts, you learn different parry and blocks in order to defend against strikes. Only knowing how to parry and block is not going to help you protect yourself against a specific attack.

Here timing and distance are important. We will talk about that later. So can you use blocks as a strike?

If you want to hit the attacker while he is attacking, you can make blocks in such a way that will not only stop him but also hurt him. For example, we usually do elbow strikes to hit. You can use elbow as a block to defend against strikes. While someone is kicking, you can hit his leg with your elbow.

The more power the attacker applies to strike you, the more he will get hurt. It is up to you how you use your blocks and parry in a fight for self defense.

I said earlier that timing and distance are very important when you parry and block to defend against any strike. You have to do parry and block at the time of getting a strike. If you are slow, the attacker will hit you. On the other hand, if you do block and parry faster before stikes, you will miss it.

In order to use blocks as a strike, the same thing is applicable. You need to detect the attacker's move and block fast to stop the attacker. If you are too close to the attacker, you might get hit even if you lock. So maintaining the distance is crucial part to defend against a punch, kick, or any other strike.

What do you think about using blocks as a strike? Please feel free to leave your comments below and express your thoughts. I'd love to hear from you.

That's it for now. Thank you so much for reading this post. Stay safe. Always be happy!

When you learn martial arts as a beginner, parry and block seem only block. When you go to the advanced level, it would be clear to you how you can even use a block as a strike. The more power and force the attacker uses, the more he will get hurt. Thank you for your feedback!
