The Wonderful World of Chess on Hive
A day like today, July 20th, marks International Chess Day, a decision stemming from a United Nations initiative since 2019. This date was chosen because 95 years earlier, in 1924, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded in Paris during that year's Olympic Games.
Since joining #hive, I have been immensely pleased to see how deeply the "Game of Science" is embedded in this universe, which has become an inseparable part of our lives. I’ve noticed it in the communities where Hive friends—both active chess players and enthusiasts—keep up with chess events worldwide, whether in live tournaments or on virtual platforms like Lichess.
I’ve also seen it in many posts where parents proudly share their children's chess lessons and tournament experiences.
Still, I believe more can be done for chess here on #hive. A few ideas have come to mind, especially considering the participation of several members of our Hive Blockchain Team, to which I am honored to belong—even if I’m not among the strongest players—in team tournaments.
Our results and standings have been respectable, but I think with more initiatives on this platform, they could improve.
We could, for example, collectively analyze the games we play in team tournaments, have the more advanced players contribute with theoretical lessons on openings, middlegames, and endgames, or even play games among ourselves and later review different variations. These are just a few ideas that could emerge from the creativity of all chess-loving members blessed to be part of our ecosystem.
Personally, I should dedicate more time to interacting in chess-related communities and adding my small contribution to what is already a great endeavor—one that could become even greater.
I really enjoy the chess puzzles shared by @eniolw, even though I sometimes fail to find the best move or variation due to their difficulty. Still, it’s a learning process.
I also admire and applaud the tireless efforts of @stayoutoftherz, @sam.chess, and @samostically in promoting and organizing tournaments.
Our #chessbrothers community always reminds us that chess is life—a priceless, nearly irreplaceable resource for personal growth and integral development. That’s why, in its universe, there’s room for all topics, human and divine.
I’ve participated in a few chess tournaments, but my internet connection isn’t reliable. Let me tell you, nothing is more frustrating than losing a completely won game because it was a five-minute match and the connection drops, taking your remaining time with it. Sometimes, I can’t even make the first moves... But this personal setback won’t discourage me from being a chess enthusiast, participating in initiatives, and even proposing my own.
We have dedicated chess communities and a Discord channel that will always be our meeting places.
Today, on International Chess Day, as we commemorate 101 years since FIDE’s founding—whose motto, "Gens Una Sumus" (Latin for "We Are One Family"), resonates deeply—I believe that on Hive, we are the core family that unites with chess lovers worldwide. Let’s continue enriching and strengthening our growth and development.
Happy International Chess Day to all my Hive brothers and sisters who love the "Game of Science"!
