Hivechess Tournament Season 15 Round 1: @maestroask won, @samostically best untitled player
Dear chess fans,
yesterday the first round of season 15 started with a 4+2 arena. 30 players had participated including many new (and old) faces! Welcome @dhilan04, @hannes-stoffel, @timix648, @solymi to Hivechess, and welcome back @gabotask, @justfavour, @awesomeintrigue and @therealflaws!
@maestroask started the new season like he ended the last season - with a win. He is basically a class on his own, only @vjap55 was able to grab 2 points from him, and @nikoszzz one more, otherwise he was undefeated. @sawko was @runner-up, followed by @samostically as third and therefore best untitled player who had a great start as well (after missing many rounds last season). Newcomer @dhilan04 (tortyllan) ended up with an excellent 4th place, ex aequo in points with @fcastro177. Congratulations to All!
I case you are wondering why I emphasized the "untitledness": IMs (and to some extent also CMs) have such an advantage that it is no surprise when they win. So in order to bring more life and change to the post titles, I include others as well.
In this position from my game (with Black) against @dhilan04 (tortyllan) White is totally winning. But in the game @dhilan04 couldn´t find the only winning move and lost. Can you find it?
White to win:
! [Solution] e4! is the only way to bring back the knight (via e3) to prevent the a-pawn from passing. Once that passer is blocked, the pawn majority on the king side wins for White. Easy, once you know it 😃.

Playing classic chess is so much easier that crazy house. Who would've though? haha That mode was giving me a headache with possibilities.
It has been a pleasure to get owned by all my oponnents. Speedchess is a hard game. I am very bad in non speed chess as well. One of the many reasons I wish my Grandpa would be still with us. He always wanted to teach me chess but back than I liked playmobil and comicbooks...

Yoyo, it was a great tournament! Personally I feel I could have done a lot better, but I started to run out of time in most of my games and lost in stupid ways haha. All in all, I'm pretty excited to continue on to the next round. Thank you very much for the invite and I'm excited to continue.
Btw, I guess the correct move is
If
1... Kc5 2. Ne4+ Kc4 3. Nd2+ Kc3 4. Ke2 and there's not much black can do while whites can threaten a check and make a double attack at any time on the pawn and king. Hope this is the winning position D:
Nvm, I just saw the solution and noticed I'm terribly wrong, but I'll share this still XDFeels great to be part of at least some form of chess club again.
And this Friday night online thing fits good into my schedules. (except for maybe once every 3-4 weeks when I got the late shift).
