Beating drums is a significant action. Depending on the culture, the sound of drum has its meaning and those able to interpret it will know what it means. Take example of the battle drums, the Drum beat is passing a message across to the people.
The few drummers I have met in my life are not encouraging in their field because most of them beat the Drum for money paid or to catch the attention of the opposite sex. The essence is not really their concern. Of course, you beat the Drum for a reason. I guess that is more important, focus on the reason as your motivation.
