Revamping Or Upgrades Required

source
Shopping center's revamp every 10 years or so as they have to offer something new to their shoppers.

I remember my retail clients back in London used to always upgrade every 5 years as the business would become stagnated. A fresh lick of paint or a new carpet with some other additions used to transform the business in no time increasing their revenue. Sounds a bit crazy, but it did work as everyone likes a change, especially the customers.

Leo showed us what is possible by redoing their front end making them stand apart from everyone else. If you compare them to the other tribes they are the only ones who have done anything significant and it is rather telling. This created interest and told everyone they were serious about what they were doing and sent a message of intent.

Over on sports where I am fairly active there has been a bit of a catch 22 scenario happening. The simple explanation is if you pay for developers to work on your site doing the upgrades required they come at a real cost. Paying someone $1000 or $2000 would make them the largest stake holder immediately as you would pay them in tokens and if they sold would dump the token down into the doldrums. I believe maybe setting up a development fund in the community using Hive as the payment is a better answer long term and something that should be considered.

This I believe is what every tribe is facing if they have no investor or owner with some capital or an owner developer. This is why I reached out to the community the other day to see if we had any developers amongst us and low and behold we had someone. This is important as no one would mind someone who is actively involved with the community becoming the top stake holder for the work they are putting in. A win win scenario as everyone benefits long term.

There is no difference to the retailers I once visited and a tribe on Hive as changes and improvements need to happen at regular intervals. Things can become stagnant very quickly and to keep the users interested one needs to change things up and improve on what is available. I do believe the clock is ticking and tribes do have a time limit before they are stale and not taken seriously. It shows you care and in the same way the retailers are reinvesting into their business it means you are also taking the tribe seriously.

I cannot speak for the other tribes as I have no clue, but in sports it is up to the community to take control and do things that everyone agrees upon. Sitting back and waiting for others to do the work isn't going to happen and why things are now starting to change as we ourselves have to make it happen.

Possibly within the next few months I am hoping for things to start being upgraded as this is voluntary work with no timelines right now. We all have hopes of where we would like to be a year down the line and we need to have moved away from the old style layout as quickly as possible.

Sports has massive potential and I am sure many have ideas of where it might be, but loads of work needs to happen before it is taken seriously by the community. The first steps need to happen as the time for talking now needs to move into actions.

I would say the analogy is even worse in the digital world. If we look at a website as the digital equivalent of a mall/store, 5 years is way to long. After all, how long do the sites like Amazon or Etsy go without updating things. I would presume they are making major additions yearly and others are more frequent intervals.

Yet we see a host of tribes, almost all of them, with the same layout as they had almost 2 years ago.

Where will they be in a year? Most likely the same place.

The only hope is that Hive.blog gets some updates and the tribes can adopt them.

I would say they are constantly updating as they have to as that is their selling tool. I will do everything I can to make sure sports is not one of the tribes relying on Hive for changes to happen as we need to be pro active as a community.

That is encouraging. I had great hopes for that tribe when it formed since the potential market is incredible. After all how many people love talking about their favorite sports teams?

However, to truly maximize the potential, I feel that they need a place for each team/club. Get Laker fans, for example, together in the same place and let them post and discuss all their favorite topics.

There are many team blogs that have tends of thousands of visitors. That could all be leveraged on Sportstalk.

The individual teams is one of the few features we've had customized into SportsTalkSocial.com. If you follow the sidebar on the side each sport breaks down into major league tags followed by sub leagues and eventually teams in those leagues. This is also maintained in our posting page where selecting tags from our suggestive list will suggest leagues and team tags that correspond with our tagging system. We need to find a way to better promote this because I don't think a lot of people even know that we have this ability.
