The Birth of Hive Blockchain: A True Digital Revolution

The Crisis in Steem

In early 2020, the Steem blockchain was thriving as a decentralized social platform, allowing users to publish content and earn rewards. But a major crisis was brewing—Tron, led by Justin Sun, acquired a significant portion of Steem’s governance tokens, gaining control over its voting power.

The Steem community, which had always championed decentralization, saw this move as a direct threat to its independence. Alarmed by the potential for centralized control, developers and users realized that they had to take action before their autonomy was lost.

A Pivotal Decision

In response to the crisis, a group of developers and community members decided to create a hard fork—a separate blockchain that would remain free from centralized influence.

Key figures such as BlockTrades and other community developers swiftly mobilized to write the code for this new blockchain. Their goal was clear: to build a truly decentralized platform where no single entity could dictate its future.

The Birth of Hive

On March 20, 2020, the Hive blockchain was born. This hard fork split from Steem, allowing users to migrate their accounts and assets to a new, independent network. Hive wasn’t just a technical upgrade—it was a symbol of resistance against centralized control.

Hive maintained the Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) system but ensured that governance remained in the hands of the community. With rapid adoption, Hive evolved into a thriving ecosystem, fostering new projects and innovations.

The Triumph of Decentralization

Following Hive’s launch, Justin Sun and Tron attempted to retain control over Steem, but many users and developers migrated to Hive, leaving Steem weakened. Hive quickly established itself as an autonomous, transparent, and community-driven blockchain.

Today, Hive stands as one of the most successful decentralized social platforms, enabling users to create content, engage with communities, and earn rewards without interference from centralized entities. Its creation remains a testament to the power of a united community fighting for independence in the digital world.
