Quick post to spread the news.

I was looking for something to watch while I was eating my lunch when I stumbled upon a Redbull post saying that a World Skate Championship contest is happening right now.

I like watching contensts so for the past hour I'm watching the "Men Semi-Finals". Lots of famous skaters like Felipe Gustavo, Jagert Eaton, Loui Lopez, Nyjah Huston, Micky Pappa and more travelled to Rome to participate in the contest so you bet it's gonna be dope. Everyone is killing it! Here is the link for those who feel like watching

Men and women Finals will be streaming tomorrow the same hour.

Skateboarding and the Olympics

I might like watching contests but I am not really into the idea of skateboarding becoming an Olympic sport.

I mean, skateboarding is art and who's the one to judge someone's art?

Don't get me wrong, this will introduce skateboarding to the masses and will create a whole new wave of skaters and skateparks but please take a moment and take a how every sport ended up after being officialy listed in the Olympics. Commercialization at it's finest.

Big gambling and sport companies will get involved, skaters will become puppets and money will be the main motivation. The culture and history of skateboarding will slowly fade and in 20 years skateboarding is gonna be like football.

Or not?

It's in our hands to keep the skateboarding flame alive.

Buy a Fallen or Etnies pair of shoes instead of a Nike. Buy your stuff from your local skateshop even if you pay $10 more cause your local skateshop is the one that's gonna organize some local contests in the future.

What are your thoughts about skateboarding and the Olympics?

Support skaters and not corporations

In my opinion, nowadays the Olympic Games are more of a commercialized industry rather than Competitive Games to have fun. As you said, there are some pros and cons in the addition of skateboarding in the Olympics. It's gonna present the sport in a great amount of people (which will also bring new people in the sport) but, it will also b*stardize the culture of skateboarding. I think that adding skateboarding in the Olympics might also break the stereotype of the "punk" skater and make the sport more mainstream. The point is that even if skateboarding would become that mainstream, it shouldn't lose it's spirit and end up like football(as you said). :)

I don;t really care about the "punk" stereotype anymore and you shouldn't too buddy! People like what they are tought to like and what everyone likes so not liking skateboarding is no big deal.

Let's hope skateboarding doesn't loose it's spirit and skaters stay true man! Money can change everyone but I hope skaters are the exeption to this rule hehe!

Yeah, certainly! That's the whole point but, to be honest, I am not really optimistic about the last one :(
