The Story of the Mordorgrinders Project - BlaBlaBleu - EN/ES
A project launched spontaneously to promote Skateboarding in Monforte de Lemos.
In March 2019 I moved to Monforte de Lemos, after living for many years in a small village in O'Saviñao. Since I had asphalt streets at my disposal I decided to go back to skateboarding.
In principle, rather to move around the city, as a cheap and fun means of transport. Nor was I considering trying to do tricks and other crazy things again.
As I didn't have my own skateboard, my "little" brother David lent me one.
When he gave it to me I told him that he was going to take me 3 good Slams that day ... and it was. Did it hurt? of course yes!
But the happiness I felt again after 16 years without skating was incredible, nor did I remember that I missed it so much!
Soon after, I bought a complete Globe. A board with a handsome design, black Tensor axles and transparent orange wheels. I loved it and I still love it if I think about it! Obviously a few boards have passed since there, and the trucks are now on the secondary (rain :)) skateboard.
At first it gave me a bit of a stick to go back to skating at the age of 38, so at first I looked for quieter places without many people to feel comfortable again and enjoy Skate by myself. To document my return to Skate and the process a bit, I have created an Instagram account "Mordorgrinder". Mainly to motivate myself, and reflect the good energy that skating gave me again.
At some point I wanted to skate a few spots in the center of Monforte, which are usually very frequented by pedestrians and the terraces of the bars. That is why I decided to leave very early in the morning, and thus have the streets to myself.
Besides that I like the tranquility and energy in the morning, getting up early is healthy;)
Well, I went out on a Saturday at 6:00 in the morning. On the way to the center I met a few young people who were returning from the party, they were somewhat Zombies from so much going on at night. And I thought of my daughter, who is very different in that regard, it seemed sad to see so many young people at that time without a clear head. And that they would probably go to sleep for half a day, and waste some of their valuable time and energy that they have.
As I skated and kicked the city I had an idea
Organize a meeting under the motto #DontDrinkAndSkate!
I was a little afraid that the young people would reject that idea, which is why I consulted with my daughter first.
She told me go ahead dad, and finally I started to announce those meetups on my Instagram account that I created just for Skate.
And the first meeting was amazing, and the following ones the same! There was good energy among the youth and it seemed they were looking for something to do. Have a good time together and then continue the day with good energy and motivation.
That has led to the Mordorgrinder account being changed to plural, and thus Mordorgrinders was born.
For a year and a half I have organized those meetings, then others for the most sporadic nights. Created a Logo and ordered stickers to a printing company to distribute among the people here.
There were many good moments and the project from my point of view has been a success. Many have been motivated to skate, they have made new friends, and above all they have skated a lot!
By the end of 2020 between the pandemic and the rainy autumn of Monforte, I have terminated that project. Since it has fulfilled what I have proposed.
Thanks to everyone who has accompanied me on this path, and to all the new friends that I have made during that time through and with that project.
