Sporting Disruptions

It has become fairly obvious that the Corona Virus is not exactly disappearing anytime soon. Things have deteriorated over the last week with news of many cases in Italy and today in the Middle East.It is still in it's infancy zone and without a cure it is taking hold. I am not a bearer of bad news, but stating the obvious. Will there be a cure next month ,6 months or in a years time? Hopefully the first one as in 6 months who knows how bad this could be. Looking at the time map we will see loads more red or black for sure and less pink.

I know sport is at the bottom of the ladder when human lives are at stake and cancelling major events or delaying them should be the sensible thing to do. The Chinese Formula One was the first casualty and with no cure many more events will end up in the same way or should do anyway.

Italy has reported many cases which seem to be regional forcing the cancellation of football matches last week. I am sure more will be cancelled this week as it would be irresponsible just to turn a blind eye. The virus broke out of China and is scary how cases are dotted all over the world.

How a virus spreads via people movement. We are all in trouble with this if it isn't contained.

What spreads this virus is people movement and air travel sitting in a confined space for 10 or 12 hours is not the best way of containing this epidemic. If you don't catch it sitting next to someone who is carrying it you can by touching an object like a handle of a door or another arbitrary item. Most people are totally unaware of how often they touch their faces during the course of the day and you don't wash your hands all the time.

Sporting events where people attend and travel are going to be disrupted. Japan is hosting the Olympics possibly this year and according to the time lapse map are getting darker with more infections reported daily. Yes that is
more than 5 months away on the 24th July ,but we are two months in already and things are not improving.

A month before that we have the Euro's with matches being hosted right across Europe. The Six Nations had it's first cancellation this weekend with the Women's tie between Scotland and Italy postponed. This weekend plane loads of Italians fly into Dublin to support their team. England fly to Italy in a fortnight and talks are already happening as to what is going to happen. Surely they should be postponed until later or played behind closed doors.

The world has never really faced anything like this before as the virus has always been contained. Aid workers returning from East Africa with the Ebola out break was the only one I can think of, but we weren't talking hundreds or thousands of people arriving with it on your door step. Those were isolated cases of one or two aid workers.

What scares me more than anything else is Africa looks like it has a clean bill of health except Egypt which cannot be true. I believe it is more like they don't know or are keeping quiet. You are not just screening from China anymore, but it could be from any country right now. Small percentages out of total countries populations maybe as it has to start somewhere.

Obviously we are all hoping for a cure, but in the meantime sport has to take a back seat as this is way more important. I have seen some of @mobbs posts about what is going on in China right now and this is not pleasant and something that is going away anytime soon. If it isn't in your country it seems less serious and only when it arrives will people see it for what it is.

I pray that it will not get worse but CoViD is a terrible virus and it might be a like a black death to humanity.

I hope so too as no one really knows how bad or good the situation is due to censorship.

I have a trip to Japan planned for May. This could not come at a worse time!

I'm still planning on going, though. Short of a travel ban by both countries, we're going to make this trip happen. I've put too much time and effort into this...
