The Australian Grand Prix was cancelled last weekend so esports saw an opportunity and raced it anyway. Not as though anyone is going to get sick as you can do this in your own home whilst in quarantine.

I thought I would give it a quick watch to see what it was about and that was a big mistake. Three hours later I found myself snoring on the couch feeling a bit like a cabbage. The truth is this is bloody boring and better than a sleeping pill.

the two idiots they have hosting it are possibly correct for their generation, but no diddly squat about racing. Their voices are a constant drone that never change gear and it was lights out for me. Apparently more than 5 million tuned in to watch this event and would be curious how many actually could keep their eyes open. Commentary is a huge part of any sport and having someone just speak for the sake of speaking can actually be worse especially when they have no personality.

Max racing at home on his simulator.
This event must have made the FIA mouths water as there were a few Formula One Drivers who entered driving for their reaL life teams namely Lando Norris for McLaren and Stoffel Vandoorn who used to race Formula One and is now Mercedes simulator driver. Real Madrid and ex Chelsea goal keeper Thibaut Courtois was also driving one of the cars so they are reaching out looking for new audiences.

I am sure the FIA could actually get a few of the drivers to try their hand at this to grow the awareness of the sport with the younger generation, but please they need to change and make it more entertaining.

I honestly never knew what the hype was about esports as it is just a tv game and I used to be pretty good. I know with practice I could beat this lot hands down and possibly will dig out my xbox and buy the game they are currently using. The only thing is I don't have 10 hours a day to practice unless I get locked in for the next few weeks due to the bloody Corona Virus.

I think tv games are great if you are playing them but don't see the enjoyment in watching them even if they are the top players around as it is not really real. Lando Norris came in 6th and if he was racing these guys for real he would smash the pants off them.

Max Verstappen raced another event that was set on the Nuremberg ring in Germany and won one vent and eventually came third overall. There are officials who are watching these races and can disqualify you for cheating like what happened to Lando Norris He was forced to start at the back of the grid for blocking the pit lane during qualifying.

I still don't get it yet every racing team has two esports drivers on their payroll. They are not exactly going to be top drivers on the track but I suppose they could help with the race simulator for developing the car using the virtual garage. I wont be watching another event anytime soon as to be frank I cannot afford to waste an evening sleeping on the couch.
