First Half Marathon!

avatar

I just finished a 22.137km running that lasted about 2hh:18mm:13ss !

rain forecast for tomorrow

I didn't mean to run a Half-Marathon today, it just sorta happened.

Whoops!

I was due to go for a run tomorrow, but with heavy rain and sleet forecast I decided to go for a run today. The plan was a quick 10km out to Harmston and back, and then the sun was shining...

Glorious sunshine

...and I felt comfortable so I did a lap of the village afterwards... and then i thought 'sod it', a quick dash to Waddington and back and boom! 13.1 miles completed in 2 and a bit hours.

Those last few km were increasingly difficult, and the last two I completed on will -power alone. I couldn't actually remember how far a half-marathon was in km (21.1 or 22.1) and I didn't want to risk a mistake so I ran 22.1km to make sure I completed the distance, and it turns out it was actually 21.1km. I'll remember next time (hopefully!)

My legs started to feel tired around the 15km mark, but they didn't feel painful so I kept going. I thought my knees and ankles would start to get sore but it turns out the biggest issue in those last few km was actually my hips. Didn't expect that.

Anyway, the pace was obviously quite slow to complement the distance, the first 10k I averaged 6:00/km and the 2nd 10k I averaged closer to 6:30/km. The time wasn't important, I just wanted to complete the distance. It does mean that the goal I had set to run a Half-Marathon by June this year has been completed much earlier than expected. I guess I'll set a new goal of completing a Full Marathon by the end of this year

Overall, I'm pleased to have competed the distance (I suspected that I would be able to do it) and especially considering I ran 12.8km yesterday, so that is nearly 35km covered in two days.... which is a significant increase to my weekly mileage. Have done some slow static stretching since I finished, and I feel ok at the moment (apart from some creaky knees) but I suspect I'll be feeling it tomorrow!

Well done! Especially good as you ran the yesterday too. You will feel it tomorrow. Having run quite a few halfs I'm not feeling ready for a full marathon yet. I think I need to look at a training plan to work up to it. It just feels like my legs are done in after a couple of hours. I think I may need to look at the nutrition side too. I really want to do a full one, but only when I'm ready for it.

Cheers mate, sat here writing this and my knees are starting to feel sore and achey. Not surprising considering the distance lol. Tomorrow will be interesting, but all I plan to do is a bit of ironing so there will be plenty of rest

I know what you mean about the marathon. Its on my bucket list, but I will take time to build up to it and not rush it. I like to think that I managed the half-mararton reasonably quickly as at the ripe old age of 35 I am finally training sensibly and not over doing it. And to be honest I will be content with sticking to a max of 20km at the moment, running for over 2 hours non-stop is hard work and takes a long time too!

Cheers for the !BEER

@Steevc I would like to contact you regarding rising star. I want to buy 100,000 startbists to buy 12 packages, do you recommend it? or what do you advise me?

preferably go to the market and look for cheap cards? I see potential in the game to win money

I you can raise that money you get more cards for it, but there is a risk they won't be great. It's all a gamble. I only spend what I am earning in the game and on Hive generally. Getting cards that boost your income helps a lot, so you need more fans. See what is cheap for that. Make it fun though as it's just not a quick and easy way to make money.

I don't have that card yet.

Ego reduces what you can earn. You can do lessons to get some skill to help with that. Which lessons get you the most skill points? If the ego is really bad then you can temporarily put cards with lots of fans on the market. Just make it a ridiculous price that nobody would pay. You can take them off again when you have enough skill.

*When someone tells you that what you want to do is impossible, change the word in your head to hard. What you want to do is hard. Hard is doable – it just requires dedicated work and effort and you can make it happen.

Enjoy a !BEER in the meantime...
