Brisk 10k to blow away the cobwebs

I just finished a 10.112km running that lasted about 0hh:53mm:24ss !

TL:DR - that was a quick one!

I was due to run tomorrow, but instead my partner and I are going to spend the day at the allotment instead (making plans for the year ahead). I decided to head out today instead, and at the last minute I chose to run just 10km today, but to push a little bit harder than the usual slow run.

I don't push hard very often at the moment as 'long slow runs' are meant to be slow. Obviously. But I like to mix it up for a bit of variety so today I made an effort to pick up the pace, and to try to maintain it. The route was the standard 'out and back route'. Its one of my most frequent routes, and I picked it purely due to simplicity: run in a straight line until I reach Harmston Crossroads, turn around and run home again.

The weather was dry and comfortably warm at 10C. The wind was reasonably strong which meant I had a noticeable headwind for the the first half of the run. It did turn into a useful tailwind on the 2nd half of the run.

Setting off, I picked a pace that was quicker than my normal one. I have an app on my phone, which sits in my pocket for the whole session, so I have very little feedback to let me know how fast I am going. I'm relying mostly on the actual running sensation, the feedback I am getting from my body. I did notice on my stopwatch that I whizzed through Waddington at 16 and a half minutes (compared to 18 minutes on a normal run) so I was evidently running at a quicker pace.

The aim was to run at a consistently higher pace, and if you look at the split times, I technically failed. Nearly each km split was faster than the last, as I kept pushing harder and harder. Which is slightly odd, as when I was actually running, it felt to me that I was pushing with the same effort for the duration of the session. I'm gonna need to work on that, and try to keep a consistent pace (or consistent effort, depending on how you look at it).

looking on the positive side, it ended up being a decent progressive session, and even though I was pushing hard throughout I was still able to finish strongly

Anyway, pushing hard for the duration does mean that I managed to break a wide range of 'distance' PBs (personal bests), All the way from 10km down to 400m...

@exhaust, @mstafford

While posting this via the exhaust website, I have noticed that a couple of my runs don't seem to sync with the site "not shared with HIVE", even though both of them appeared on my PeakD account immediately.

I can't try to submit the post again, because that will surely lead to be being posted a 2nd time on hive/peakd

It also means that if it is not shared with hive then presuamably it doesnt add to the weekly/monthly 'totals'.

The chart below shows the monthly total for feb, yet I know I am on 98km, which is 25km short (10k and 15k run not shared)

Its not a big problem, as it appears on the hive blackchain (and therefore I am eligible for rewards etc) but I wondered if there was an issue with the exhaust site. Or perhaps its my slow laptop to blame.... I don't know if anyone else has had an issue?

*When someone tells you that what you want to do is impossible, change the word in your head to hard. What you want to do is hard. Hard is doable – it just requires dedicated work and effort and you can make it happen.

Wow, that's good going. My best 10k is only slightly quicker than that. Amazing that you kept getting quicker. With my Garmin watch I can monitor my pace, but sometimes it seems to show me going slower than the splits work out. I wanted to run this morning, but it was raining. Will try again tomorrow. I do prefer it to be above freezing, so current weather suits me fine. Just not into getting soaked.
