Sava - Gameljne - Šmartno 14K

avatar

Saturday morning. Quite warm yet windy and cloudy at times. With nothing better to do it's time to go out on a longish run.

The idea was to go down to the river Sava and along its left bank upstream to the first bridge. Cross the bridge, return home on the right bank. A flat course with fields and tarmac roads all the way except first and last mile. The run would be around 15 kilometers long.

The execution was a bit different. After four kilometers, while running across the fields, I di a turn to the right too much and ended in th village of Sredne Gamljne. Which was OK since flexibility and variety add excitement to the run. I continued westward and stayed on the left bank of Sava even while on return.

At kilometer eleven I decided that I needed some hills so I turned to the north, across the local road, and into the woods. I returned home running on familiar trails. In the end, it was 14.6 kilometers of slow pace with lots of photo-stops.

A concrete boardwalk by the river Sava.

This path is older than me and still survives the elements.

Running by the horse ranches.

Two old houses in Gameljne.

Looking at Šmarna gora in the distance from across the meadows.

This was as close as I got to Šmarna gora. Next time I might run all the way to the top.

Lonesome forest road on the way back.

Back on the home trail.

The weather couldn't decide to be sunny or cloudy. So it was a bit of both.

It was a lovely easy run. Tomorrow I'll repeat it :)
