I played basketball as a kid and going coast to coast usually was something I was only familiar with when playing ball. Riding a bike coast to coast in Australian was never really a thing unless you had a good few weeks to complete it.

In New Zealand, things are a little bit different and I guess, my thoughts on how far I should be riding in one day have also changed a little in the past few years as well.

@run.kirsty.run had a race simulation training session planned for today with a 45 minute swim, a 4 hour ride and a 20 minute run. We decided to head down to the western beaches of Auckland in Maraetai as the beaches are pretty nice for an open water swim. For our bike ride we decided to head east for two hours to what actually is the other side of the country and then turn back again to finish our ride for the day.

I guess technically, it was completely to the opposite coast, but I like to think that is what we achieved for the day. When its low tide on one side, it's high tide on the other which was something different and a little cool. It was almost stopped one hour into the ride as we were faced with torrential rain which flooded the street and one of two cracks of thunder, which I am not sure what the rule is for cyclists.

Either way, the amount of water on the road as it rained forced us to stop for 15 minutes to let things die off a little. A quick check of the weather radar and a realization that we kinda didn't have many other options other than finishing the ride open to us.

The weather turned around and we got some sun and a little wind for the remainder of the ride and no extra rain until we got to the last 30 minutes where it was very light and not causing any problems for us.

We are getting to almost 9 weeks until race day and Kirsty is looking strong and these big training sessions are not really causing any problems for her.

Stay Strong Everyone!

Nice to be able to ride across a country like that, but the weather sounds a bit scary. I guess you had to keep riding anyway.

'Firth of Thames' sounds like a mix of English and Scottish influences.

Wow, good job!
There are also several Coast to Coast trips in the UK that are on my bucket list.
These C2C's start and end with dipping your front wheel in the water.
