Morning Run - Not parkrun

I just finished a 7.171km running that lasted about 0hh:40mm:42ss !

I thought it was about time I did another 5km test of my fitness. The route I have mapped out up and around Fairfield Park is quite a tough one as it has a climb of over 30m from the start to the highest point. I took a gentle jog up to the start by the gateway at the bottom of West Drive and then tried to prepare myself.

I probably started too quick, but the hill soon slowed me down. I do feel I had a bit more in my legs than on previous attempts and was still going well when I reached the top of that part. Then there is a dip with a shorter climb beyond. There are a few little jumps over some bike barriers and a small fence to make it interesting. When I reached the half way point where I turn around I was not feeling too bad, but getting over the hump on the way back is always tough. Eventually I was on the long downhill. I had not been looking at my watch, but the audio updates made it sound fairly good. I gave it all I could on the last stretch and then walked part of the way home.

According to Strava I got personal records for one and two miles. It was my second best 5km though. It reckons I was about four seconds quicker at Great Denham parkrun when I missed the start and had to overtake most of the field. I think if I had that sort of event again with lots of people and a flat course I could be a fair bit quicker.

I have logged my time on the local parkrun. I can see others are keeping up their running. I would expect lot of PBs when they start up again, but I doubt that will be this year.

I managed to miss the rain this morning. We have had quite a bit over the last couple of days, but then it is cooler too. It got too hot for us in the week.

Have a great weekend. Run free and stay well.

You have uploaded 178 running activities, and 64 of them have been of similar distances (within 10 percent)!
Here are your 5-fastest running activities of a similar distance:

Over these 64 similar activities, you have travelled approximately 454.20 kms at an average pace of roughly 5:50 min/km!
Your latest run was at a pace of approximately 5.675min/km!
Looks like you went a bit faster than usual this time! Nice work!
Have a !BEER for your troubles!

You need to stake more BEER (24 staked BEER allows you to call BEER one time per day)

Cheers. A few years ago I could not have imagined running like this.

I really need to get back running again. I used to run reasonably often in my early 20's and then a couple of injuries broke the habit. Since then I never really got back into the routine. I always liked the simplicity of it... you just need a decent pair of shoes.

I thought it was about time I did another 5km test of my fitness.

Quick question... surely for a 'test' of 5km (or any distance) you would be better picking a flatter route?

I was not into running when I was younger apart from what I had to do at school. I started about 8 years ago as I felt I needed to do something about my fitness. I've spent a bit of shoes, but not needed much else.

As I have run this route a few times it gives me some idea of how I am doing. I have a flatter route, but it's partially blocked by roadworks at the moment. I really want to do one of the local parkruns again to get an 'official' time, but that will have to wait. I have got close to 25 mins on those, but wanted to get under that. It looks like I could achieve that now. I'll keep training and hope for a big improvement when they restart.

Considering how expensive it can be to get 'kitted out' for some sports, running is much cheaper and easier.

Ah I see, if its a 'regular' route then that's fair enough. I've never done a parkrun, but the closest one to me is the other side of town, and I could not see the point of driving somewhere to then run round in circles (plus I often work weekends which doesn't help).

There's a parkrun that's a short cycle from me and another I could get to by train. I've driven to a couple of others. I was hoping to get to more this year and clock up 50 runs, but that is on hold for now. They are fun events. They are just not viable until there is some fundamental change in the pandemic status.

I would die if I go running (being dramatic) but I hate running so much, I would do any other exercise.

LOL! I didn't think I would like it, but now I quite enjoy it. I have fallen over a couple of times, but no serious injuries.

The 5K almost under 25 minutes. You are definitely running with that targeted pace of 5 min/km. Speedy 😇

That's my goal. The training is paying off.

I haven't even driven 7km today, let alone run it. Guess I need to get my walk in later.

I think I have run further than I've driven this year! I was getting the train to work.
