Morning Run - Come, back

I just finished a 6.475km running that lasted about 0hh:39mm:10ss !

A week and a half ago I managed to hurt my back whilst shifting a sack of flour. I was pretty painful for a while and even walking was hard, but it has improved a lot since then. I did a few strength exercises and did a bit of swimming in our pool. I did a fair bit of walking at the end of last week and it gradually got better. I had been keen to get out running again and decided to go for it today.

I was feeling pretty good as I set off, but was prepared to walk back if it got bad. I was not going for speed and just went with what felt okay. That turned out to be around 6min/km, which I found quite easy.

It is a nice morning with largely blue skies, but not especially warm. The weather has turned a bit cooler in the last week, but it can warm up during the day if the sun stays out. I still prefer to get my run done before then.

On the way out there was a guy running on the other side of the road, but I was not going to try and keep up with him. You have to go with your own pace, especially when recovering from injury. I made it all the way to Stotfold, then turned back and took the longer loop past the church.

I was aware that my back is not completely healed, but it was not painful. I will keep easing myself back into running and wait until it feels better before I ramp up the speed and effort. I still want to do a half marathon this month, but that can wait a while.

Run free and stay well.

You have uploaded 185 running activities, and 51 of them have been of similar distances (within 10 percent)!
Here are your 5-fastest running activities of a similar distance:

Over these 51 similar activities, you have travelled approximately 338.32 kms at an average pace of roughly 5:51 min/km!
Your latest run was at a pace of approximately 6.048min/km!
Looks like you went a bit slower this time! Remember that it's important to take some rest days, and do some rehab / prehab / strength and conditioning training too! If you weren't intending to go slower, take a moment to listen to your body, and see if you need something. Check in with yourself!

Yes, probably best to just take it easy and work your way up to that half marathon. Stay away from the flour sacks until after that is over too! I did some weight training yesterday morning that included some squats and I am in quite a bit of pain today. Every muscle screams when I go to sit down!

It is so easy to over-do it. A friend suggested kettle-bells as a way to strengthen my back. We don't necessarily work all the muscles if we just do certain exercises all the time. Hope your muscles recover soon.

Thanks, I did aerobic walking today. Tomorrow I am going to do weights again, but I plan on dropping down to fifteen pounds from twenty. I forgot I need to ease back into things!

Glad that you are back on track. Take it easy and run on your own. I am beginning to stray from my healthy habits lately. Too much junk food. I should get strict to myself and follow the disciplined routine.
Good luck.

You need to stake more BEER (24 staked BEER allows you to call BEER one time per day)

Nice to have you back. I am sure it must have felt like forever since you went for a run. Keep it slow and steady.

I did miss it. As well as the exercise I enjoy being outside and it is also my main podcast listening time. Hope to be running again tomorrow.

Sounds peaceful. Any suggestions for a good podcast?

It depends on what you are into. I listen to various science shows from the BBC and Guardian as well as some about open source (Bad Voltage, Late Night Linux) and some comedy (Richard Herring). A few years back I had a long commute and would listen to a lot more. There is something for everyone out there. I have even done some podcasts myself about music. I may start doing that again.

A decent break has probably done your legs some good. It can take a while for all those fibres to repair themselves.

I did seem a bit fresher. The week of running every day was interesting, but maybe I over-did it and made myself vulnerable to injury.
