Evening Run - Whose silly idea?

I just finished a 9.183km running that lasted about 0hh:55mm:24ss !

I was not planning to run today, but my friend Jon did his usual think of posting on Facebook that he was doing a workout if anyone wanted to join him. He tends to do this a bit last minute as he is not always sure what his family are doing. I decided to go along anyway. Going soon after dinner may not have been the best idea.

His plan was for 6x800m sprints. We headed across the railway to the fields to start. It was a bit muddy in places. The first sprint was along a long, straight farm track. I set off much too quickly. 4:30/km is about as fast as I can go, but I cannot keep it up for long. I was still not going to catch Jon. At the end of that one I was feeling rough, but carried on anyway.

We went under the bridge and started the next sprint heading for Henlow along the main road. After that one Jon went easy on me by saying he would turn around before he completed the 800m and we would stop when we met. So I was doing more like 600m.

Once in Henlow we went around the cricket green. I do not think I have been down that road. Some nice houses down there. Then we looped back past the middle school and health spa. The last sprint was partly going up the big bridge for extra difficulty, but overall it was a fairly flat run.

We jogged back after that. I had not seen Jon in a while, so we had a good chat. We had plenty to talk about as we are both musicians.

I expect the run did me some good. Sometimes I need someone to push me harder than I would on my own. I hope there can be some more group runs now restrictions are easing. I will not be doing my regular Thursday morning run.

Run free and stay well.

Is that an airport on the map there? It kind of looks like it. Great job on your run. It is starting to get hot and muggy here for the next couple of days, so I am not sure how much I will be outside. Probably more than I am planning!

That's an air force base. They do not fly military aircraft there these days, but it dates back about 100 years and still has grass airstrips. They fly gliders from there and maybe some other light aircraft. I actually worked there for a year when doing my degree. The base may be shutting down fairly soon. I wonder if any of it will be preserved.

It's gone cold again here today.

It was a tough run, but probably what I needed. It's tempting to just do easy runs. Jon does a lot more competing and so needs to stay in shape. He's a bit younger than me and he's done a lot more running as well as triathlon.
