Evening Run: Down the line

I just finished a 6.708km running that lasted about 0hh:38mm:12ss !

I am in Portsmouth for work this week and staying at a hotel on Hayling Island. There has not been much time for running, but it was still just about light when we got back today so I quickly got changed and went out. There is a track down the coast that is where the old railway line used to be. Even the bridge has gone apart from the supports. I ran out to where the bridge was and there is still an old signal there.

I turned back to head south for a while. It was getting quite dark, so I needed to watch my step. I just saw a few cyclists who had their lights on.

After twenty minutes I turned back. I had started off pretty fast, but took it easier on the return journey as it was dark. I diverted to follow the main road where there were lights. There was a lot of traffic considering it is a dead end, but people were probably coming home from work.

The last bit to the hotel is not lit up and has no path, so I needed to be extra careful there.

It was a good workout, so I was quite sweaty. Luckily the room had a nice shower. I had a few minutes before going downstairs for dinner to cool off. I had a beer (London Pride) with my fish and chips. The hotel is pretty busy with a big group of pensioners staying. My room is nice and quiet though.

I will try and fit in another run this week.

Run free and stay well.

You ran for 38 minutes!! Geez, I can’t run for 5 minutes straight up. it would be like my heart is about leaving my chest and I wound be breathing heavily.

As I've said to others, I've trained a lot to be able to do this. I struggled to run any distance a few years back.

Wow... true. It would definitely not be easy at the start. Means you have really been consistent at it. Incredible!!!

Awesome job on your run! I am heading to a conference at the end of the month and I am hoping that I can carve out some time to do a bit of exercise myself. They typically have an organized fun run/walk one night, but I kind of prefer doing things on my own. You would likely enjoy it. You have to guess how long it will take you to finish and then whoever is closest gets a prize.

It is a bit strange for me to be in the office so much, but we are getting stuff done. It was a nice run and just a shame it was getting dark or I might have gone further. I will try a morning run tomorrow.

Maybe you will have to head back way in the summer when the days are longer. This time of year always drives me a bit crazy. It was dark when I came in and when I went home on Monday night.

I'm likely to be back here as it's a long project.

That's a pretty good pace man, below 6 minutes per click in an uncontrolled environment (and added to that, that kind of terrain) is amazing, makes me want to have my knees back (they are coming, soon) so I can hit the outdoors again. I noticed that you want people to join you in testing out EXHAUST, are you involved in this project?

I didn't have a lot of time, so I went out hard to get a decent workout. I'm just a satisfied user of @exhaust. @mstafford is the developer. It doesn't offer extra tokens, but we get stats and a nice community.

Oh, I know Matt, at least from previous interactions, I will definitely check it out.

It's Mark, not Matt -- but that's fine. Often confused with the NFL player.

I'm hoping to upgrade EXHAUST over the next couple months as it starts to get rainy outside, and my work slows down a bit. EXHAUST is still very much in alpha/beta-stage, both for appearance and ease-of-use.

Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

Nice pic of the sunset there. One of my university friends lived near Portsmouth in Lee on Solent for a while and I visited twice. It's an interesting city, I especially enjoyed a few drinks down by the docks of old Portsmouth. I remember a pub that had live jazz that was pretty cool.

Enjoy the rest of your stay m8 👍🙂
