The Long Game on Hive: Building Sportsblock, Staking Profits, and Chasing 15,000 HP

Let’s just call a spade a spade: this past month has been an absolute, unapologetic Hive Power-Up binge for me.

I started by taking a good, hard look at my wallet and scraping together every last bit of HBD I had lying around. It wasn’t a mountain of wealth—just 101 HBD—but I immediately swapped it all for Hive. The vast majority of this went straight into my stake, resulting in a massive 1,585 HP power-up.

I know what some of you are thinking. "But what about Hive Power Up Day? The first of the month is sacred!" Look, I get the charm of the badges and the community spirit. But I personally just don't see the point in sitting on liquid Hive to time a calendar event. Why wait? Patience might be a virtue in the real world, but on the blockchain, waiting just means you are actively losing profit. I prefer the route of immediate gratification. Powering up instantly means my account gets stronger today, my votes get heavier today, and I start earning higher curation rewards today. Why leave money on the table? Thanks to this recent power-up frenzy, my Curation Effectiveness (KE) has officially dropped below 1 and is currently sitting pretty at 0.96. Very nice.

A great example of how our community has gotten a bit smaller—but much better—is my new batch of followers this month. Back in the wild west of the Steem days, you’d get followed by a massive army of bots every time you so much as breathed. Now? My new followers are actual Hivians. People made of actual flesh and blood. I am absolutely certain that if our community hadn't become a bit more compact and pure, these real people would have never found me through all the daily noise.

Back to My Roots: The Sports Guy

But I haven't just been investing in pure Hive. If you look at my username, my original mission on this blockchain is pretty obvious: I came here to write about sports and sports betting.

Historically, finding a rock-solid sports community hasn't always been easy. We had a great run with SBC (Sports Betting Community) for a while. We had a genuinely fun group hanging out there, but sadly, it slowly died out. My absolute peak during that era was organizing the World Cup fantasy game, where we had over 170 participants battling it out!

Now, @blanchy and @niallon11 are working their tails off to build a brand new sports community over at Sportsblock (https://www.sportsblock.app/), and I am naturally on board. Because the price of Hive is currently—let’s just call it a "bargain"—I’ve been aggressively buying their native token, Medals, at an exchange rate of 1 Medal for 0.04 Hive. My grand masterplan? To hoard 25,000 Medals before the Sportsblock doors officially swing wide open, which will secure my status as a Gold Member.

Right now, I’m sitting on 17,024 Medals, which means I only have about 8,000 left to go. My total investment so far is 681 Hive. It’s not that I’m going to restrict myself to only writing about sports betting again, but I absolutely want to support Blancy and Niallon in this venture. In fact, I'm already looking into organizing another World Cup Fantasy game, this time on Sportsblock, hopefully pulling in just as many participants as we did four years ago.

Cheap Thrills, Slot Spills, and Stacking HP

Aside from sports, I also try to spread some love to @kryptogamers and @hiveslotgames. Today, I chucked 125 Hive into both platforms.

I’ll admit it: I love playing slot games. The best part about these dApps is that you don't need to break the bank to have a good time. Many of the slots cost a mere 0.1 Hive per spin. It’s practically negligible risk for maximum entertainment.

The Road to 15K

So, as you can see: Hive is far from dead. I have absolutely zero plans to cash out and walk away. Sure, our community might be smaller, but it’s alive, kicking, and there is constantly something moving. Our biggest challenge now is figuring out how to market this ecosystem—both the blogging and the dApps—to the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep grinding away at my personal goal for this year: reaching 15,000 HP. Today, I am sitting at 14,000. With a little bit of time and the continued support of this awesome community, I know I’ll crush that goal soon.
