Max y Lewis a otro nivel — Verstappen and Hamilton at another level

La Fórmula 1 ha tenido rivalidades legendarias como lo fueron Senna-Prost o Lauda-Hunt. Más recientemente hemos visto duelos espectaculares entre Vettel y Alonso, o entre Hamilton y Rosberg. La temporada 2021 parece traer una rivalidad que seguramente pasará a la historia, en este caso, Hamilton ya experimentado y con 7 campeonatos, se enfrenta a Max Vertsappen, joven piloto que algunos comparan con Senna.

Formula 1 has had legendary rivalries such as Senna-Prost or Lauda-Hunt. More recently we have seen spectacular duels between Vettel and Alonso, or between Hamilton and Rosberg. The 2021 season seems to bring a rivalry that will surely go to the history, in this case, Hamilton, already experienced and with 7 championships, faces Max Vertsappen, a young driver that some compare with Senna.

En la segunda carrera de 2021, Verstappen dominó desde el inicio, arrebatando el primera lugar a Hamilton en la salida de la carrera. En la primera carrera, fue Hamilton a quien le tocó ganar. Que los dos primeros puestos los ocupen estos dos de nuevo no es casualidad. Hamilton se despistó y chocó suavemente al muro en la curva Tosa del circuito de Imola, quedó en una situación que parecía alejarlo por completo del podio o de los puntos. Quizás fue beneficiado por la salida del coche de seguridad, pero el punto es que solo un piloto al nivel de Hamilton o Verstappen hubiera realizado tal recuperación hasta el segundo lugar, aún con un Mercedes en mano.

In the second race of 2021, Verstappen dominated from the start, taking first place from Hamilton at the start of the race. In the first race, it was Hamilton's turn to win. It is no coincidence that the first two places are occupied by these two again. Hamilton lost his car and crashed softly into the wall at the Tosa corner of the Imola circuit, leaving him in a situation that seemed to take him completely off the podium or out of the points. Perhaps he benefited from the safety car, but the point is that only a driver at the level of Hamilton or Verstappen would have made such a recovery to second place, even with a Mercedes in hand.

No soy fanático de Lewis, pero hay que reconocer a un gran talento, por más rivalidad deportiva que exista. En un comentario a la reseña de la carrera escrita por @greengalletti escribí que por alguna razón, me imagino a otro piloto bajándose del coche en esa situación, o incluso apresurándose demasiado, dañando aún más el auto. El despiste de Hamilton en la curva Tosa y su posterior recuperación al segundo lugar, es una de tantas muestras de que Hamilton tiene un nivel distinto al resto. Sobre todo comparado a su compañero, Valterri Bottas, quien no brilló para nada en esta carrera. Pero pilotos más jóvenes están allí para desplazar a Hamilton en un futuro no muy lejano, entre ellos Max Verstsappen y Lando Norris.

I'm not a Lewis fan, but you have to recognize a great talent, no matter how much sporting rivalry there is. In a comment to the race review written by @greengalletti I wrote that for some reason, I can imagine another driver getting out of the car in that situation, or even rushing too fast, damaging the car even more. Hamilton's layoff at the Tosa corner and his subsequent recovery to second place, is one of many signs that Hamilton has a different level than the rest. Especially compared to his teammate, Valterri Bottas, who did not shine at all in this race. But younger drivers are there to displace Hamilton in the not too distant future, among them Max Verstsappen and Lando Norris.

Max tiene apenas 23 años, es un piloto holandés que ha sido muy valorado desde sus inicios. Se le ha comparado con Senna desde hace tiempo, pero es al día de hoy que esta comparación tiene mucho más sentido que hace unos años. Verstappen se ha consolidado al volante del Red Bull, siempre es veloz, conduce bajo la lluvia excelente, y ha superado ampliamente a todos sus compañeros, a excepción de Ricciardo. Se perfila como posible campeón de la temporada 2021, al ser el único piloto que parece capaz de enfrentar a Hamilton y Mercedes. Durante la carrera de Imola, Vertsappen cometió un ligero despiste en la relargada, pero esto no le desconcentro en lo más mínimo. Dominó bajo la lluvia y en seco desde el inicio.

Max is only 23 years old, a Dutch driver who has been highly valued since his early days. He has been compared to Senna for a long time, but it is today that this comparison makes much more sense than a few years ago. Verstappen has established himself at the wheel of the Red Bull, is always fast, drives in the rain excellently, and has far outperformed all his teammates, with the exception of Ricciardo. He is emerging as a possible champion for the 2021 season, as he is the only driver who seems capable of challenging Hamilton and Mercedes. During the race in Imola, Vertsappen made a slight mistake at the restart, but this did not put him off in the slightest. He dominated in the rain and in the dry from the start.

Parece ser que lo único que impediría a Verstappen pretender al título este año es que su auto Red Bull no esté a la altura del Mercedes más adelante en la temporada. Además, la ayuda de Pérez puede ser crucial para el título, el piloto mexicano tiene encima la presión de rendir a un nivel cercano al de Verstappen, o al nivel que tenía Ricciardo. Pienso que es cuestión de tiempo para que "Checo" se adapte al auto Red Bull. Max Verstappen está a un nivel difícil de alcanzar, al igual que Hamilton, esta rivalidad se dará todo el año, y quizás tengamos una carrera similar en Portugal, con Hamilton y Verstappen peleando por la punta.

It seems that the only thing that would prevent Verstappen from challenging for the title this year is if his Red Bull car is not up to Mercedes' standards later in the season. Also, Perez's help could be crucial for the title, the Mexican driver is under pressure to perform at a level close to Verstappen's, or the level Ricciardo had. I think it is a matter of time for "Checo" to adapt to the Red Bull car. Max Verstappen is at a difficult level to reach, just like Hamilton, this rivalry will go on all year, and maybe we will have a similar race in Portugal, with Hamilton and Verstappen fighting for the lead.
