Una vez más, y por tercera vez consecutiva, el Real Madrid se enfrenta al equipo con la mejor defensa de toda la liga. Digo esto porque la Real Sociedad sólo ha sufrido 11 goles en el torneo, y esa es la menor cantidad de goles que cualquier equipo ha recibido en esta liga hasta ahora. Hay otros 2 equipos con la misma cantidad de goles sufridos, el Sevilla y el Athletic de Bilbao, y estos fueron los 2 anteriores rivales del Real Madrid en la última semana. Así que, una vez más, estamos viendo el mejor ataque del torneo (Real Madrid) contra la mejor defensa del torneo (en este caso es la Real Sociedad). Debido a esto, esperaba un partido muy reñido e igualado.
Desde antes de que comenzara el partido, creía que el Real Madrid tenía un poco más de posibilidades de ganar el partido debido a lo bien que ha estado rindiendo y a la falta de buenos resultados en los partidos anteriores de la Real Sociedad. Sin embargo, también pensaba que los jugadores del Real Madrid no han estado rotando lo suficiente y sospechaba que más pronto que tarde empezarían a sufrir el cansancio acumulado.

El partido fue muy intenso desde el principio e incluso hubo un peligroso cabezazo de la Real Sociedad que fue milagrosamente detenido por el pie de Militao gracias a un movimiento instintivo suyo. Aparte de esto y del disparo de Vinicius, no hubo muchas oportunidades de gol en los primeros 20 minutos del partido. Pero ninguno de los dos equipos tenía el control del partido, y todo estaba muy igualado.
Once again, and for the third time in a row, Real Madrid is facing the team with the best defense in the entire league. I say this because Real Sociedad has only suffered 11 goals in the tournament, and that's the fewer amount of goals any team has received in this league so far. There are other 2 teams with the same amount of goals suffered, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao, and these were the previous 2 rivals of Real Madrid in the past week. So, once again, we are seeing the best attack of the tournament (Real Madrid) against the best defense of the tournament (in this case it is Real Sociedad). Due to this, I was expecting a very tight and even match.
Since before the match started, I believed Real Madrid had a little bit more chances of winning the match due to how well they have been performing and the lack of good results in the previous matches from Real Sociedad. However, I also thought that Real Madrid's players haven't been rotating enough and I suspected that sooner rather than later they will begin to suffer from accumulated fatigue.
Some players like Benzema, Modric, Kroos, and Casemiro have been playing a lot of minutes in the past few weeks with little rest, and I doubt they can keep up with their performance for too long without giving them some rest. Time will tell but either way, Real Madrid has Pintus who is a great physical trainer, and he surely knows whats he is doing regarding the planning of rotations in the squad and giving rests to the main players. I was happy to see Rodrygo again in the lineup though.
How was the match?
The first shot on target of the match came from Vinicius and this shouldn't be a surprise by this point because this player is usually the most electric and active attacking player in every match he plays. He allows Real Madrid to constantly enjoy fast pacing attacking moves, and is usually very important in the victories of the team.
The match got very intense since the beginning and there was even a dangerous header from Real Sociedad that got miraculously stopped by Militao's foot thanks to an instinctive move from him. Apart from this and Vinicius's shot, there weren't many goal opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the match. But neither team had control of the match, and everything was very even.
La ausencia de Benzema afectó a la capacidad del Real Madrid para crear jugadas de ataque de alta calidad, por lo que a pesar de tener tanto a Vinicius como a Rodrygo jugando en ambos lados del campo, tenían muchos problemas para generar buenas oportunidades de gol. Vinicius empezó a girar hacia el área y junto con Jovic, crearon una genial combinación dentro del área que permitió a Vinicius colocarse delante del portero con espacio suficiente para disparar, y así lo hizo. Toda la jugada fue preciosa y aunque Vinicius se lleva la mayor parte del mérito, lo que hizo Jovic dentro del área tras recibir el pase también fue sorprendente. Este espectacular gol permitió al Real Madrid adelantarse en el marcador y a partir de ahí la presión fue para los jugadores de la Real Sociedad.
Ese gol nada más empezar la segunda parte le dio al Real Madrid un gran impulso anímico, poco después hubo otra jugada de peligro en la que participaron Vinicius y Jovic pero esta vez acabó con un disparo bastante malo de Vinicius que se fue fuera. El Real Madrid se hacía con el control del partido gracias a su repentino gol.
Su segundo gol ocurrió alrededor del minuto 57, hubo un tiro de esquina a favor del Real Madrid, y con lo que parecía ser una jugada táctica, Casemiro dio un cabezazo y envió el balón a donde estaba posicionado Jovic, y luego, Jovic pudo dar un cabezazo en un lugar apretado entre el portero y un defensor de la Real Sociedad. Jovic fue el primero en llegar al balón por pura suerte, pero fue un gol completamente válido y dobló la ventaja del Real Madrid.
The absence of Benzema affected the capacity of Real Madrid to create high-quality attacking plays, so despite having both Vinicius and Rodrygo playing on both sides of the pitch, they were having a lot of trouble generating good goal-scoring opportunities. Real Sociedad started to play better than Real Madrid around the 25-minute mark but their attacking plays weren't good enough to end in a goal. If nothing changed, then Real Sociedad would have most likely ended up scoring later in the match. The best Real Madrid's defensive player during the first half was clearly Militao, he constantly stopped Real Sociedad's attacks, and saved the goalkeeper from several important shots. Militao is the younger player in Real Madrid's defense, but that doesn't prevent him from performing like a true legendary central defender.
The first half ended with everything very even and tight but with Real Sociedad playing a little bit better and with more chances of scoring a goal. That's why I was surprised to see Real Madrid scoring super fast in the second half, I really wasn't expecting it. The play started with Vinicius doing one of his usual runs on the left side of the pitch. That's where he usually plays and is, therefore, the zone where he creates the most danger.
Anyways, Vinicius started to turn towards the area, and together with Jovic, they created a cool combination inside the area that allowed Vinicius to position himself in front of the goalkeeper with enough space to shoot, and he did just that. The entire play was beautiful and even though Vinicius takes most of the merit, what Jovic did inside the area after receiving the pass was also amazing. This spectacular goal allowed Real Madrid to take the lead and from this point on the pressure was on Real Sociedad's players.
That goal at just an early stage of the second half gave Real Madrid a huge emotional boost, soon after that, there was another dangerous play involving Vinicius and Jovic but this time it ended with a crappy shot from Vinicius that went outside. Real Madrid was gaining control of the match thanks to this sudden goal.
Their second goal happened around the 57-minute mark, there was a corner kick in favor of Real Madrid, and with what appeared to be a tactical play, Casemiro gave a header and sent the ball to where Jovic was positioned, and then, Jovic was able to give a header in a tight spot between the goalkeeper and a Real Sociedad's defender. Jovic was the one who got the ball first by pure luck but it was a completely valid goal and it doubled Real Madrid's advantage.
Después de esos 2 goles, los jugadores de la Real Sociedad empezaron a mostrar muchos signos de intensa frustración, habían jugado una maravillosa primera parte y ahora, era casi imposible que pudieran siquiera empatar el partido. Al final, el Real Madrid consiguió otra importante victoria gracias a Vinicius, Jovic, y también a Militao que estuvo genial en la defensa.
Lo que viene
Los próximos partidos que pienso ver son los de la Champions League a mitad de semana. Hay varios grupos con posiciones ajustadas, y este último partido antes de pasar a la siguiente ronda seguro que será muy emocionante con algunos equipos importantes que podrían acabar fuera de la competición como el Atlético de Madrid y el Barcelona.

With this goal and with his assist in the first one, Jovic proved he could also be a competitive striker that could very well be useful when it is time to give Benzema some rest. I honestly don't know why this striker has played so few minutes in this season because I have always thought he has a good enough level to play from time to time.
After those 2 goals, Real Sociedad's players started to show a lot of signs of intense frustration, they had played a wonderful first half and now, it was almost impossible for them to even tie the match. As the minutes kept passing, I felt Real Sociedad were simply resigned and the quality of their attacking plays started to reduce.
In fact, in the final minutes of the match, the best goal opportunity wasn't even from Real Sociedad, but from Vinicius who after receiving a great long pass by Militao, was able to run faster than the defensive players and when it was time to beat the goalkeeper, his shot wasn't so good and it was stopped, but he had everything in his favor to score another goal in that play.
I was expecting very intense final minutes, but I believe Real Sociedad's players simply didn't believe tying the match was possible, and even though they attempted a few attacking plays, there wasn't much intensity. In the end, Real Madrid achieved another important victory thanks to Vinicius, Jovic, and also Militao who was great in the defense.
What's next
The next matches I plan to watch are the Champions League matches mid-week. There are several groups with tight positions, and this final match before going to the next round will surely be very exciting with some important teams that might end up out of the competition such as Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
