2.jpg

A.J Burnett

[ESP-ENG] They came as a star and were a failure

MLB P.png

At MLB it became common for teams to offer players contracts of more than 10 years and sums above $300 million as they have, Mike Trout, Francisco Lindor and Fernando Tatis Jr although this does not always work since there are players who receive contracts something similar to these and the truth is that their production within the pitch leaves much to be desired and the expected projections are due , in the next post I will mention to you the players who in my opinion were a resounding failure after signing big contracts

2.jpg

A.J Burnett

This starting pitcher arrived at the Yankees in 2009 on a five-year, $82.5 million contract having earlier more than acceptable seasons as well as in Toronto and the Marlins just the season before the signing he had won 18 matches which made his signature look very appetizing, no doubt came with a sign of being one of the main pitchers in the rotation thanks to the experience and numbers that had left previous seasons.

The reality is that this pitcher was one of the most inconsistent while in the Yankees let's say his first season had somewhat good numbers winning 13 games, losing 9 and a 4.04 ERA which is somewhat acceptable, but his next two seasons were catastrophic with a ERA above 5.00 winning 21 and losing 26 games between the two seasons , if we take stock we realize that he never justified the $82.5 million of his contract as he left a total of 34 wins and 35 losses with a high ERA of 4.80 which meant his change in 2012 to the Pirates.

gettyimages-154626648-e1568733328895.jpg

Barry Zito

This starter was at the Oakland Athletics from 2000 to 2006 where he truly had impressive numbers during his time at the Oakland, he was listed as the Ace of rotation as in 2002 he received the Cy Young season award in which he was undoubtedly intractable with 23 wins, 5 losses and a 2.75 ERA

In 2007 this left-hander reached the San Francisco Giants on a seven-season, $126 million contract by signing at the time one of the best openers of all major leagues, from the start in San Francisco it was not even the pitcher's hat that was in Oakland as the first season left numbers below what was expected of him , in his first campaign he left 11 victories, 13 losses and a 4.53 ERA being hit hard, it should be noted that in the 7 years he was in Los Gigantes he did not have a season with a ERA less than 4.00 being the best with 4.03, which leads us to say that it was a resounding failure to sign this pitcher that in his passage by Giants left 63 victories , 80 losses and a 4.62 ERA.

boston.jpg

Carl Crawford

This gardener surprised by his speed and great defense in the left prairie being regarded as one of the fastest and best defending ballers in major leagues, he was in Tampa Bay from 2000 to 2010 where he not only showed the aforementioned thing that was the defense and speed but he was a very good contact hitter leaving batting averages about 300 , in 2010 he was the last with Tampa had the best season of his career at the offensive level with a batting average of 307, 19 home runs and 90 RBIs, adding in addition to 13 triples, 30 doubles and 47 stolen bases.

Due to Carl Crawford's consistency with Tampa Bay, the Boston Red Sox offered the gardener a super contract of $142 million for 7 seasons, The gardener seems to have been affected by the pressure of such a contract and above all wear the uniforms of a team with such history, noting very anxiously in the batting box and being quite the opposite of Tampa's Carl Crawford since in his first campaign he was full of highs and lows in the offensive culminating with 255 batting average, 11 home runs and 56 pushed, numbers that are far away from those he had obtained in previous years and which led him by way to change to the Dodgers since in the time he was alone left inconsistency on the pitch with 260 batting average , 14 home runs and 75 RBIs in two seasons in Boston.

PABLO-1.jpg

Pablo Sandoval

This third Venezuelan baseman lived his best years at the San Francisco Giants where he is now remembered for everything he achieved and won 3 World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014 being Mvp of the 2012, no doubt Sandoval was recognized for being a hitter of important moments as is the postseason specifically in the World Series where he has impressive numbers in 12 games played 426 batting average , 9 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 8 RBIs.

In 2015 Sandoval left the Giants to put on the Boston Red Sox uniform for $95 million and five seasons came as a star and third baseman was entirely his, Boston expected similar or better results than he had at the Giants as they saw it as a key and fundamental piece in the team's aspirations , all this stayed in that same, aspirations, because in the 3 seasons he was on the team he left some poor numbers, 14 home runs, 59 RBIs and only a 237 batting average also suffered overweight problems and many injuries hurt him until Boston decided to release him.

5537c2706bb3f71e188fddb4.jpg

Josh Hamilton

This player until before the time of his signing with Los Angelinos boasted of being one of the best players in all major leagues, as he had massive numbers in his seasons with Los Rangers where he was chosen as Mvp of the American league in 2010 where he had 359 batting averages, 32 home runs and 100 RBIs being both a force and contact hitter and joined the group in 2012 players who have connected four home runs in the same match.

In 2013 he became part of the Angels on a $125 million, 5-year contract where he was thought to form a double in the offensive heart with Mike Trout which was far from reality, Hamilton struggled both on the pitch and outside of them which influenced the gardener's performance , leaving a very low numbers, 31 home runs, 123 RBIs and a 255 batting average in the two seasons he was with Los Angelinos, which was a very large offensive slumb and considered one of the worst MLB hires, it should be noted that this is a player who before reaching Los Angelinos used to hit more than 30 home units , boost more than 100 runs and bat for 300 average per season.

Ellsbury_1280_ofs90irs_xpxly6mi.jpg

Jacoby Ellsbury

This central gardener is part of the group of players who have dressed in the uniforms of The Boston Red Sox and The Yankees (Protagonists of the ultimate rivalry in MLB), with those from Boston he lived his best moments in the diamond as he had an appearance memorable both defensive and offensive, having seasons like 2011 with 32 home runs, 105 RBIs and 321 batting averages where he received the Return of the Year award.

Ellsbury in 2014 signed a mega contract with the Yankees for
7 years and $153 million who believed they had secured center field for a long time, the gardener had an acceptable first season with 16 home runs, 70 RBIs and 271 batting average after this longer step on the disabled list than on the pitch and went from being a luxury hire to a failure considered by many to be the worst contraction in Yankees history , he only played a full season and the others were interrupted by his physical problems until he was released.
