I was checking my Twitter TL this morning when I stopped to read "Joe Musgrove pitches 1st no-hitter in San Diego history" I rolled my eyes and wondered: Joe, Who?" I didn't see the game. I confess. But I wasn't going to keep quiet, no sir, it's a no-hitter, for God's sake! And the San Diego Padres? The only major league team that hadn't enjoyed the feat? (I knew that one, by the way. Who didn't?)

¿No?

The only challenge ahead was to honor the feat without making it look like an agency story. You know the drill. So, here we go: "A not hit" means that the pitcher of a baseball team prevents a hit by all batters from falling into nobody's land, within the lines that delimit the legal field, How? With the help of the defense and by mixing his pitches in such a way that the nine innings go by without accepting any hits. Do you follow me? No?

¿No? ¡Diablos..!

Yes, I know, it's hard to write for a global audience that knows about soccer and not about a sport that is only played in an organized way in former U.S. colonies or countries with a high U.S. influence. But we continue. To keep the story simple, let's simplify: Achieving what Joe Musgrove (Joe, Who?) did is extremely difficult. That is, the pitcher faces a roster of guys with the potential to hit at least 3 out of 10 times, they get paid for it, and the one who doesn't get fired. Are you following me? No? Hell..!

¿Y Joe?

And Joe? I didn't know who he was until today, I confess. You keep hearing last names like Cole, Scherzer, Strasburg, Greinke, Kershaw, etcetera, but, Musgrove? He is a man born in a small town or suburb very close to downtown San Diego, a city whose zoo, considered the best in the world, comes to mind. That he was a guy from right there, from that city, begins to add a hint of legend to the story.

¿No?

Who helped complete the feat? Let's say all the players who played defense, but one of them is extremely important for a pitcher to accomplish the feat: the catcher. He's the guy behind home plate who calls the game, the one who calls the pitches... You follow me, right? Aha, it took me a while to understand this too, as long as it took me to understand #Hive. Long story short, a guy of Puerto Rican origin named Victor Caratini was the catcher: Victor, Who? Yeah, it was confusing to me too. Suffice it to know that he's been the catcher for this guy's last two exploits. And it's always nice to be the first reach at something because he also accomplished it with different teams: with the Brewers last year and with the Padres yesterday.

In front of more than 27,000 people at Global Life Field in Arlington, under a closed roof and with an average temperature of 22°C, the only thing that prevented perfection was a hit by the pitcher in the fourth inning and the denial of the scene in his hometown. A feat, at last, we honored the man who ended the streak of the only team without a no-hit in its trophy cabinet. That is why there was an epic in Arlington.
