Ohtani en la tinta [ESP] // [ENG] Ohtani in the ink || OPINION

Exactly 15 days ago, I wrote my last post to comment on the extraordinary season that the designated hitter and pitcher Shohei Ohtani is having. In the meantime I have been checking the times I have referred to him in #Hive and I started to worry about whether @fermionico is fanatic about this player? You might wonder who reads me, but I've had the opportunity to write about other players and other topics without being repetitive. At least, I think so.

In reviewing more deeply the possible regularity of our admiration, I have come across partial achievements worthy of comment or of offering my perspective. Nothing more. Like yesterday's Friday, when the Nippon became the first mortal in American League history to hit 30 home runs and steal 10 bases before the All-Star Game. And that 12th base was not just anyone. It was vital to the outcome of the game. But we'll come back to this.

The thing is: we have had a rhythm of 4 or 5 posts per week since the season started and many times I omitted Japanese achievements to give a balance to my blog. A sportswriter is due to neutrality and every ballplayer has to have a chance. Basically, what I write has more weight on the performances of Venezuelan ballplayers and their respective contributions. Let's say that is the niche where I feel comfortable. But I can't stop being objective to omit achievements and opinions about Anglo-Saxon ballplayers or any other origin.

That said, Ohtani is simply spectacular. As soon as you see him walk to home plate, you get the feeling that something is going to happen. And it usually does. I haven't seen a ballplayer intimidate opponents like that since Barry Bonds was active and before the history with substances became known. And the authority with which he swings at the ball and the sound the ball makes when he hits it is unparalleled. Mainly because he fans with tremendous speed.

And he's a guy who takes advantage of his opponent's mistakes, last night's first home run (he's 29th of the season) came off a ball that stayed high and inside the Orioles pitcher. And just watching him enjoy his at-bat and respecting the opposition as he swings the bat to start rounding the bases says a lot about his measured personality. Then he came on his next at-bat and with one on base, he waited for a pitch up the middle and took it out the opposite side, barely effortlessly, but powerfully. I never tire of watching replays of his swing because it reminds me of Bob "Comedulce" Abreu.

The guy is tearing up American league pitching do you know what his offensive line is over the last 15 games since I last wrote about him? .333 AVE / .419 OBP / 1.130 SLG and a wild 1.462 OPS! Where will he get to when the season is over? I know it's too early to speculate, but 30 home runs already accumulated? Will he be the new home run king in a season? Watching him swing the way he does makes you wonder. He is only 27 years old. And he is also a pitcher and as I said, a player that helps in any role.

¿Quien sabe? Tal vez toque.

Why? Well, remember the stolen base? After getting the base on balls in the ninth inning, Ohtani went for the steal and made it. With the game tied at 7 apiece and Jared Walsh at-bat, after two outs, Shohei sent a run home on Jared's golden single to score to put the Orioles away. Writing about Ohtani again on Monday? Who knows? Maybe I'll play.

P.S. English is not my native language, apologize for that.
