Adhiero con entusiasmo a la iniciativa de @fulldeportes relativa a la celebración de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokyo con un recuerdo grato a nuesta memoria.
El título "Mi momento Olímpico Deportivo" me parece más que nunca oportuno en esta ocasión, aunque en rigor de verdad voy a tener que recurrir a mi segundo momento deportivo grabado en mi memoria juvenil, ya que el primero lo publiqué en coincidencia con la iniciativa "Mi Momento Deportivo de la Historia": el oro olímpico del básquetbal argentino en Atenas 2004. / My Sports Moment in History": the Olympic gold of Argentine basketball in Athens 2004.
En fin, mis mejores recuerdos se remontan a los Juegos Olímpicos, tal vez porque los Juegos representan mejor que ningún otro evento lo mejor del ser nacional.
Despojados de cualquier tipo de bandería política o económica los Juegos Olímpicos (u Olimpíadas como se las llamaba comúnmente hasta hace algunas décadas) permiten aglutinar a simpatizantes de cualquier deporte bajo una misma bandera.
E incluso más: en países que no nos van particularmente a genio terminamos por aplaudir calurosamente las empresas deportivas de sus representaciones.
Porque despojados de cualquier tipo de negativismo u opinión personal, termina por prevalecer el respeto hacia la dedicación la trayectoria y la performance del deportista en cuestión.
Como el de este útimo fin de semana hacia la atleta uzbeka Oksana Chusovitina cuando el mundo entero descubrió que una atleta que no pertencía a la elite de los Juegos Olímpicos se retiraba a los 46 años después de haber participado en 8 de ellos. Un récord absoluto. Tal vez muchos de los ávidos lectores de esta noticia deportiva ni siquiera sabían de la existencia de un paìs llamado Uzbekistán. O si lo sabían desconocían su ubicación geográfica. Esto es lo hermoso (e instructivos) del mayor evento deportivo a nivel mundial.
Por eso mi momento olimpico preferido va, aparte del citado, al triunfo obtenido por la Selección Argentina Masculina de Hockey sobre Césped medalla de oro en Rio 2016.
I enthusiastically endorse @fulldeportes' initiative regarding the celebration of the Tokyo Olympic Games with a fond memory.
The title "My Sports Olympic Moment" seems to me more than ever appropriate on this occasion, although in truth I will have to resort to my second sports moment in my youthful memory, since the first one I published in coincidence with the initiative "My Sports Moment in History": the Olympic gold of Argentine basketball in Athens 2004.
Anyway, my best memories go back to the Olympic Games, perhaps because the Games represent better than any other event the best of the national being.
Stripped of any kind of political or economical flags, the Olympic Games (or the Olympics, as they were commonly called until a few decades ago) allow to bring together supporters of any sport under the same flag.
And even more: in countries that we are not particularly fond of, we end up warmly applauding the sports ventures of their representatives.
Because stripped of any kind of negativism or personal opinion, respect for the trajectory and performance of the athlete in question ends up prevailing.
As was the case this past weekend for the Uzbek athlete Oksana Chusovitina when the whole world discovered that an athlete who did not belong to the elite of the Olympic Games was retiring at the age of 46 after having participated in 8 of them. An absolute record. Perhaps many of the avid readers of this sports news did not even know about the existence of a country called Uzbekistan. Or if they did, they did not know its geographical location. This is the beauty (and instructive) of the world's greatest sporting event.
That is why my favorite Olympic moment goes, apart from the one mentioned above, to the triumph obtained by the Argentine Men's Field Hockey Team , gold medal at Rio 2016.

Como dato anecdótico cabe destacar que Argentina fue el primer país sudamericano en el que se practicó el hockey sobre césped.
El 18 de agosto de 2016, en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016, Los Leones -nombre con el cuál se conoce a la selección argentina de hockey sobre césped- se alzaron con la medalla dorada desatiando un júbilo sin precedentes en los seguidores de este deporte en Argentina.
En la final los dirigidos por Carlos Retegui (una figura emblemtica dentro del hockey argentino que durante años fue el entrenador del seleccionado femenino y actualmente condivide la dirección de ambos seleccionados) y en un partido de contornos emocionantes derrotaron a Bélica por 4 a 2.
El partido a un cierto punto se había puesto 3 a 2 a favor de Argentina con goles de Pedro Ibarra, Ignacio Ortiz y Gonzalo Peillat y los belgas empujaban en pos de la igualdad. Sin embargo en un preciso contratataque Agustín Mazzilli marcó el cuarto gol argentino y diluyó las esperanzas del equipo belga de lograr el empate.
La imagen de la alegría desatada en los jugadores una vez terminado el partido ha quedado impresa en mi memoria. Sobre todo porque es un deporte que requiere muchos sacrificios personales, los jugadres que integran el seleccionado y los clubes de donde provienen no son profesionales en algunos casos y tampoco son a nivel local esponsorizados como corresponden.
Por este motivo competir con las grandes ligas les resulta muy difícil. Y al no poder confrontarse non grandes equipos no pueden tampoco adquirir la verdadera dimensión de su poderío.
De ahí la importancia de la empresa lograda.
Anecdotally, Argentina was the first South American country to practice field field hockey.
On August 18, 2016, at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Los Leones -the name by which the Argentine field field hockey team is known- won the gold medal, unleashing unprecedented jubilation among the followers of this sport in Argentina.
In the final, the team coached by Carlos Retegui (an emblematic figure in Argentine field hockey who for years was the coach of the women's national team and currently shares the direction of both national teams) defeated Belgium 4-2 in a match of exciting contours.
At a certain point the match was 3-2 in favor of Argentina with goals by Pedro Ibarra, Ignacio Ortiz and Gonzalo Peillat and the Belgians were pushing for an equalizer. However, in a precise counterattack Agustín Mazzilli scored Argentina's fourth goal and dashed the Belgian team's hopes of a draw.
The image of the joy unleashed in the players once the game was over has remained imprinted in my memory. Especially because it is a sport that requires many personal sacrifices, the players who make up the national team and the clubs where they come from are not professional in some cases and are not sponsored locally as they should be.
For this reason, it is very difficult for them to compete with the big leagues. And since they cannot compete against the big teams, they cannot acquire the true dimension of their power.
Hence the importance of the company achieved.
Los orígenes del hockey en Argentina. / The origins of field hockey in Argentina.
A partir de inicios del siglo XX comienza a producirse en Argentina una fuerte corriente inmigratoria de comunidades de origen británica que se asientan, principalmente, en las grandes ciudades y capitales del país: Buenos Aires, por excelenecia, pero también Córdoba, Rosario, Mendoza.
Estas comunidades adoptaron deportes típicos de sus países de origen (Inglaterra, Escocia, Gales, Irlanda) y los incluyeron dentro de las escuelas que ya existían en Argentina dedicadas a sectores de la sociedad medio-alta, económicamente hablando.
A tal punto que ya en 1908 se funda la primera Asociación de Hockey made in England con las siglas HAE (Hockey Association of England).
Sin embargo inicialmente promueve el impulso femenino de este deporte. Y así por enteras décadas.
Por este motivo, Las Leonas el seleccionado argentino de hockey femenino es la primera en decolar y asegurarse un primado mundial consagrando a figuras de la talla Luciana Aymar, galardonada ocho veces como la mejor Jugadora de hockey del mundo. Una verdadera leyenda mundial en este deporte.
La Selección masculina comienza a adquirir relevancia y peso continental en la década 1990-2000 logrando la medalla de oro en los Juegos Panamericanos de Santo Domingo 2003, Guadalajara 2011 y Toronto 2015 y la medalla de Plata en los Juegos Panamericanos de Brasil 2007.
El primer paso estaba dado: la primacía a nivel panamericano. Quedaba el gran desafío, el oro olímpico y los mundiales.
En los mundiales va de menor a mayor, desde el sexto puesto en el 2002 hasta el primer puesto en los mundiales de 2005, 2017 y 2012.
Quedaba solo una meta: la meta olímpica. Y Los Leones la alcanzaron aquel inolvidable 18 de agosto de 2016 en Rio.
From the beginning of the 20th century, a strong immigration flow of communities of British origin began to settle in Argentina, mainly in the big cities and capitals of the country: Buenos Aires, par excellence, but also Cordoba, Rosario, Mendoza.

The men's national team began to acquire continental relevance and weight in the 1990-2000 decade, winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo 2003, Guadalajara 2011 and Toronto 2015 and the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Brazil 2007.
The first step had been taken: primacy at the Pan American level. The great challenge remained, the Olympic gold and the World Championships.
In the world championships it went from low to high, from sixth place in 2002 to first place in the 2005, 2017 and 2012 world championships.
Only one goal remained: the Olympic goal. And the Lions reached it on that unforgettable August 18, 2016 in Rio.

Siendo un deporte ajeno al norte del sur, comprendemos su alegría por ese momento olímpico.
¿La razón? Por el tiempo que le tomó a los chicos estar a la altura de las "Leonas".

Gracias por entender el sentido del post @fulldeportes. A veces es fácil hablar de deportes con los que "nacemos" deportivamente como aficcionados.
En mi siempre estimada Venezuela creo que hablar del béisbol o del basquet es natural. Como en Argentina, Uruguay o Brasil por solo citar tres paìses de un profundo arraigo deportivo, el fútbol se ve a cada ángulo, en cada esquina, en cada "potrero" -al menos los que quedan-
Pero cuando hablamos de deportes "importados" de los colonos inmigrantes de hace un siglo cuyos descendientes hoy son tan latinos como cualquier otro, y esos deportes alcanzan no digo una difusión pero si una profesionalidad tal en su préctica como el caso que nos ocupa es digno de elogio.
Como has precisamente marcado Las Leonas - a las cuáles les falta solo el título olímpico- marcaron un hito, Luciana Aymar otro. Verdaderas embajadoras de un deporte en el cuál en Argentina no hay ni siquiera sostún pupolar. Y mucho menos presupuesto. Y sin embargo esos deportistas muchas veces nos traen la medalla más apreciada de todas. De cualquier color, basta que sea olimpica.
Y sin embargo a la hora del respaldo económico, como dicen algunos: "todo para el fútbol"
Por eso la parte final la dediqué a Las Leonas. Un muy simple pero merecido homenaje al hockey sobre césped.
