Pocas veces un inicio de Champions League (y cuando digo inicio digo exactamente la primera fecha) nos ha presentado tantos clásicos entre equipos de primer nivel, algunos de ellos verdaderos candidatos a ganar la Orejona como vulgarmente se lo llama al trofeo de clubes más famoso (y mejor pagado) del mundo.
En anteriores ediciones los principales candidatos se enfrentaban generalmente después de iniciado el torneo y casi el terminar la fase de ida (y vuelta) de su grupo por lo cuál los encuentros servían más que nada a consolidar las dos primeras posiciones.
El cambio de formato en esta nueva temporada ha hecho que la espectacularidad del torneo se sienta desde el inicio.
Ayer les comentaba en este post sobre los resultados de la primera fecha entre los que se destacaba la abultada victoria del Bayern Munich jugando de visitante nada menos que contra el Barcelona ahora sin Messi y la derrota como visitante del "nuevo" Manchester United de Cristiano Ronaldo.
Hoy, en cambio, me voy a referir en detalle a dos clásicos de esta segunda jornada (aunque siempre corresponde a la primera fecha de cada grupo): el Liverpool contra el Milan y en Inter contra el Real Madrid, agregando en esta oportunidad otra encuentro que no llamarían tanto la atención sino fuera porque significa el debut de Lionel Messi en esta Champions con los colores del PSG. Me refiero al partido entre el Paris Saint Germain y el Brujas de Bégica como local.
Un nuevo Milan reacciona y lucha pero la victoria va a los ingleses del Liverpool.
El partido no se presentó de entrada para nada favorable al equipo italiano dirigido por Pioli, totalmente renovado con respecto a temporadas anteriores, quien ya a los 9 minutos iba perdiendo por uno a cero con gol en contra de Fikayo Tomori.
Sin embargo supo de a poco recomponer sus líneas, soportar el asedio del equipo inglés y cuando el Liverpool menos lo esperaba hacia el final del primer tiempo logró empatar el partido con gol del croato Antec Rebic a los 42' y ponerse en ventaja un par de minutos más tarde con gol del español (de origen marriquí) Brahim Diaz para irse al descanso en ventaja, jugando como visitante.
Sin embargo al iniciar el segundo tiempo, a los 49 minutos la defensa del Milan se distrae y Mohamed Salah ni corto ni perezoso a dos pasos del arco tras una buena asistencia de Origi mete la igualdad en el resultado.
El empate le sirvió de estímulo a los "Reds" quien se lanzaron a una ofensiva total, bien controlada al inicio por el equipo italiano pero de a poco desbordada por los ingleses.
Por eso no llamó la atención que antes de la media hora de juego del complemento, a los 75', Jordan Henderson pusiera en ventaja por segunda vez en el partido a los locales, en un encuentro electrizante y por momentos muy buen jugado.
Los cambios en ambos equipos no logran cambiar el resultado en el Anfield para la alegría de los seguidores del Liverpool y la(no demasiada) tristeza de los "tifosos" del equipo italiano que supo jugar un partido inteligente, a la altura de las circunstancias, y marcar dos goles como visitante. Lo que no es poco mirando al futuro.
Entre Inter y Real Madrid triunfó la estrategia de Ancelotti.
Un primer tiempo donde manda el Inter pero no logra perforar la defensa del Read Madrid. El equipo dirigido por Simone Inzaghi siente la falta de Romeo Lukaku transferido al Chelsea por 110 millones de euros y no logra concretizar a través de las incursiones de Lautaro Martínez (quien a los 19 minutos solo ante el belga remata central y al cuerpo del arquero) ni de Dzeko (a quien Coutois se anticipa con el pie), varias veces peligrosos delante del arco de Courtois. Al argentino y al bosnaico les falta el sentido de gol que tenía Lukaku para poder concretizar en la red el dominio interista.
Por su parte el Real dirigido por Carlo Ancelotti solo intenta a través de esporádicos contragolpes asociados a Karim Benzenma sin descuidarse nunca atrás retrocediendo en bloque y trabajando bien con los balones parados con lanzamientos por faltas cometidas por el rival. Una técnica que le dio tan buenos resultados cuando el atacante principal se llamaba Cristiano Ronaldo.
De a poco en el segundo tiempo Ancelotti comienza a actuar su plan como lo ha hecho con asiduidad. Dejar que el rival se canse para aprovechar e intensificar los ataques de su equipo. Inter comienza a disminuir su ofensiva y el real Madrid comienza a sentirse más cómodo sacando a un Lucas Vázquez cansado y haciendo entrar a Rodrygo mientras el equipo italiano le responde con una serie de cambios destinados a reforzar la ofensiva: Arturo Vidal por Hakan Calhanoglu y Joaquín Correa el argentino de buena actuación en las eliminatorios sudamericanas por su compatriota Lautaro Martínez.
Sin embargo es el Real Madrid quien a través de Benzema sigue mostrándose más peligrosos especialmente en los tiros con balón detenido.
Y al final la táctica tantas veces puesta en práctica por Ancelotti le da resultado: en el minuo 90' Rodrygo agarra el balón de volea y lo mete en águlo.
Con este mismo modo de jugar ya lo sacó campeón de La Liga al Real Madrid, pero tembión por ese mismo estilo de juego fue licenciado del club merengue en aquel entonces. Los directivos de la "Casa Blanca" seguirán pensando de la misma manera?
Messi debuta pero no brilla y el PSG rescata solo un empate.
Al PSG parecía que, en el debut de su astro, estrella del fútbol y del marketing del cuál los franceses han hecho un ícono todo iba a andar de maravillas. Y no fue precisamente así.
A pesar de ya al cumplirse el primer cuarto de hora el PSG se ponía en ventaja con gol de Ander Herrera, sus principales figuras no lograban aunar sus cualidades y el balón lo les llegaba con demasiada claridad quedando aislados del centrocampo y la defensa.
Esto fue aprovechado por el Brujas que con un planteo táctico muy simple y mucho esfuerzo colectivo logró en el primer tiempo aislar a Mbappè, Massi y Neymar del resto del equipo y ejercer una presión constante sobre la posesión del balón.
No fue de extrañar entonces que a través de una buena jugada colectiva llegara el empate a cargo de su capitán Hans Vanaken al promediar la media hora de juego. El PSG sintió el golpe, trató de superar a su rival con sus individualidad y generalmente fracasó en ese intento gracias al constante despliegue del equipo belga.
El segundo tiempo inicia como había terminado el primero: con un Brujas tranquilo y un PSG nervioso. Para colmo de males a los pocos minutos se lesiona Mbappé y el entrenador argentino Procchettino hace entrar a su compatriota Icardi en su lugar. Al iniciar la etapa suplementaria el DT ya había producido dos cambios: Danilo y Draxler por Paredes y Wijnaldum.
Sin embargo aparte de una clara situación que no pudo concretar Icardi al PSG le faltó puntería en sus delanteros y sobre todo crear verdaderas situaciones de gol.
Y el equipo parisino no va más allá del empate como visitante ante el Brujas.
Da la impresión que hacer jugar a Neymar junto a Messi de punta no siempre le va a dar buenos resultados al director técnico del equipo galo. Especialmente cuando se encuentre con equipos aguerridos que tratarán de cortar este circuito entre centrocampo y ataque.
Alguno se deberá tirar atrás y generar juego, caso contrario las estrellas comenzarán a perder su fulgor y el PSG puntos. Como hoy.
Los restantes resultados.
En los restantes resultados se destaca la goleada del Manchester City por 6 a 3 antev el Lipsia con la espectacular estadísticas de 9 goles convertidos en un partido de Campions League. No es algo que se ve todos los dias. El equipo de Guardiola muestra todo su potencial ofensivo pero también alguna endeblez defensiva.
El Atlético Madrid y el Porto no van más allá de un discreto empate sin goles mientras los holandeses del Ajax dan la nota goleando como visitantes por 5 a 1 al Sporting de Lisboa (Portugal).
El Sheriff Tiraspol de Moldavia en su primera presentación en la Champions en toda su historia hizo su debut soñado derrotando por 2 a 0 al Shakhtar Donetsk de Ucrania mientras el Borussia Dortmund como visitante derrotó al Besiktas de Turquia por 2 a 1.
Rarely has a Champions League kick-off (and when I say kick-off I mean exactly the first matchday) presented us with so many derbies between top-level teams, some of them true candidates to win the Orejona as the most famous (and best paid) club trophy in the world is commonly called.
In previous editions, the main candidates generally faced each other after the tournament had started and almost at the end of the first (and second) round of their group, so the matches were mainly aimed at consolidating the top two positions.

Today, instead, I will refer in detail to two classics of this second day (although it always corresponds to the first day of each group): Liverpool against Milan and Inter against Real Madrid, adding on this occasion another match that would not attract so much attention if it were not for the debut of Lionel Messi in this Champions League in the colors of PSG. I am referring to the match between Paris Saint Germain and Brugge of Belgium at home.
A new Milan reacts and fights but the victory goes to the English Liverpool.
The match did not start at all favorable to the Italian team led by Pioli, totally renewed compared to previous seasons, who after only 9 minutes were already one-nil down with a goal scored by Fikayo Tomori.
However, they were able to gradually recompose their lines, withstand the English team's siege and when Liverpool least expected it, towards the end of the first half they managed to tie the match with a goal by Croatian Antec Rebic at 42' and take the lead a couple of minutes later with a goal by Spanish (of Moroccan origin) Brahim Diaz to go to the break in advantage, playing as visitors.
However, at the start of the second half, after 49 minutes, Milan's defense was distracted and Mohamed Salah was quick and easy to equalize after a good assist from Origi.
The equalizer served as a stimulus for the "Reds" who launched a total offensive, well controlled at the beginning by the Italian team but gradually overwhelmed by the English.
That is why it was not surprising that before half an hour of play in the second half, at 75', Jordan Henderson put the home team ahead for the second time in the match, in an electrifying and at times very well played match.
The changes in both teams failed to change the result at Anfield to the joy of the Liverpool fans and the (not too) sadness of the "tifosos" of the Italian team that was able to play an intelligent game, up to the circumstances, and score two away goals. This is no mean feat looking to the future.
Between Inter and Real Madrid, Ancelotti's strategy triumphed.
A first half in which Inter were in the lead but could not break through the Read Madrid defense. However, it is Real Madrid who, through Benzema, continues to be more dangerous, especially in shots from set pieces.

To make matters worse, a few minutes later Mbappé was injured and the Argentine coach Procchettino brought on his compatriot Icardi in his place. At the start of the extra time the DT had already made two changes: Danilo and Draxler for Paredes and Wijnaldum.
However, apart from a clear situation that Icardi was not able to score, PSG lacked a goal-scoring ability from their forwards and, above all, they were unable to create real goal-scoring situations.
And the Parisian team does not go beyond the draw against Brugge.
It seems that playing Neymar alongside Messi up front is not always going to work out well for the French team's manager. Especially when he comes up against tough teams that will try to cut this circuit between midfield and attack.
Someone will have to drop back and generate play, otherwise the stars will begin to lose their flare and PSG points. Like today.

In the remaining results, Manchester City's 6-3 win over Lipsia stands out with the spectacular statistics of 9 goals scored in a Champions League match. It's not something you see every day. Guardiola's team shows all its offensive potential but also some defensive weakness.
Atletico Madrid and Porto only managed a discreet goalless draw, while the Dutch Ajax team scored a 5-1 away win against Sporting Lisbon (Portugal).
