Las actitudes a veces especulativas en algunos encuentros de esta Eurocopa en la fase de grupos parecen haber quedado definitivamente relegadas en la apertura de los octavos de final en la doble jornada disputada este sábado entre Dinamarca y Gales en el primer turno e Italia y Austria en el restante partido.

Partidos vibrantes, bien jugados, con actitudes siempre ofensivas, tal vez condicionadas del hecho que en un partido único a menos que no se especule con la lotería de los penales no hay margen para el error.
Y ese criterio fue interpretado perfectamente por los jugadores de los cuatro seleccionados en cuestión, sabiendo que algunos llegaban como favoritos (Italia), otros como sorpresa (Austria y Gales) y el restante era una incógnita (Dinamarca).

Dinamarca no comenzó bien esta Europa. Golpeada anímicamente con las imágenes que aún giran en nuestra memorias relacionadas con el paro cardiorrespiratorio que Christian Eriksen sufrió en medio del partido en el debut contra Finlandia, logró sobreponerse a esa adversidad y clasificarse a octavos de final de esta Europa.

Y en este partido donde era todo o nada mostró al mundo entero la mejor Dinamarca. Esa que en la época clasificatoria se fue recuperando de a poco hasta golear a Rusia y pasar de ronda.

Hoy fue el turno de Gales con Gareth Bale (muy desdibujado en su rol de líder) como figura estelar. Sin embargo los galeses fueron humillados como los rusos pagando un caro tributo al buen juego asociado y a la potencia ofensiva de los daneses.

Gales jugá a resistir y al cabo de primer tiempo tiempo no òle fue tan mal. Perdía solo por 1 a 0.

Sin embargo en el complemento Dinamarca los pasó por arriba. Apenas iniciado el segundo tiempo marcó el segundo gol y de ahí en más fue un continuo florearse y jugar a voluntad. La goleada arrivó por lógica decantación de un mejor juego y de una mayor cantidad de situaciones de gol creadas.

En algunos tramos del juego me hizo recordar a aquella increíble Dinamarca campeona de la Eurocopa en el año 1992 disputada en Suecia, a la cual, por ironía de la suerte había llegado como invitada ya que Yugoslavia, la clasificada en su grupo, había sido expulsada del certamen por su directa participación en la Guerra de los Balcanes.

La final fue contra Alemania a la que derrotó por 1 a 0.

Esta Eurocopa iba a dejar jugadores de una calidad futbolística excelsa, excelentes arqueros, mediocampistas de lujo, atacantes muy fuertes.

Algunos nombres que me vienen a la mente son el arquero Peter Schmeichel, la calidad intacta de Thomas Brolin, el eterno Brian Laudrup, todos ellos dejaron su huella por toda Europa.

No se si esta Dinamarca llegará tan lejos. Hay rivales muy fuertes. Tal vez más fuertes que los de 1992 a pesar de que en esa época Hoilanda era una potencia indiscutida.

Lo cierto es que esta Dinamarca tiene un juego asociado que cuando funciona mete miedo por la precisión de los pases, por la concentración de los jugadores, por su capacidad aérea.

Y lo curioso es que no tiene una "estrella" como otros seleccionados. Todo el equipo es una "estrella", en la mejor conceptualización que puede tener la palabra "colectivo". Una especie de mosqueteros con el lema de "uno para todos y todos para uno"

A resounding Denmark did not start off well in Europe. Emotionally shaken by the images that are still swirling in our memories related to the cardiorespiratory arrest that Christian Eriksen suffered in the middle of the debut match against Finland, managed to overcome that adversity and qualify for the round of 16 of this Europe.

Wales played to resist and at the end of the first half it was not so bad. They were only losing by 1 to 0.

However, in the second half Denmark overcame them. As soon as the second half started, they scored the second goal and from then on it was a continuous flourish and play at will. The goal came as a logical result of a better game and a greater number of goal situations created.

In some parts of the game, it reminded me of that incredible Denmark, champions of the 1992 European Championship in Sweden, to which, by irony of fate, they had arrived as guests, since Yugoslavia, which had qualified in their group, had been expelled from the competition due to their direct participation in the Balkan War.

The final was against Germany, which they defeated 1-0.

This European Championship was to produce players of an excellent soccer quality, excellent goalkeepers, luxury midfielders, very strong attackers.

Lo de Italia fue distinto. En todo sentido. Se presentaba como absolutamente favorita fuerte de su indiscutido liderazgo en el Grupo A que llenó a ganar con una efectividad absoluta del cien por cien con una de las delanteras más goleadoras y la valla invicta en más de 11 encuentros jugados.

Con una solidez en todas sus líneas. Sin embargo Austria que, en la fase de grupos, fue la que más resistencia le opuso, se constituiría en un duro y peligroso rival desde elinicio.

Y en efecto los primeros quince minutos fueron de dominio austriaco. Sin mayor peligrosidad, es cierto. Pero con dominio en la posesión del balón y una Italia desorientada que tenía que jugar un partido distinto al planeado.

De ahí en adelante el equipo "azzurro" fue rearmando sus líneas con una muy buena actuación de su lateral Spinazzola y de Acerbi. Inmmobile e Insigne eran siempre bien controlados por un ótimo Baumgartner, mientras Arnautović se prodigaba en ataque y defensa.

Es verdad que pocas veces llegaron con peligro al arco de Donnaruma, pero también es cierto que controlaban a Italia lejos de su propio arco.

En el segundo tiempo Austria se dio cuenta que además de controlar y podía atacar. Y de esa manera se generó un partido interesante de constante ida y vuelta con una prodigalidad de los jugadores austríacos verdaderamente asombrosa. Hasta el final del partido no habían hecho ningún cambio.

Y en ese continuo ir y venir Austria pudo hasta haber ganado el partido. Promedio el partido una muy buena jugada entre Alaba y Arnautovic terminó en la red del equipo italiano. Posteriormente el VAR anuló el gol por una milimétrica posición adelantada del delantero austríaco que juega actualmente en el Shanghái Port de la Superliga de China.

Cuando parecía que el tiempo suplementario sería simplemente un protoclo para llegar a los penales, apenas iniciado Chiesa ingresado por Berardi en una estupenda jugada más que por habilidad que por potencia abrió el marcador.

De ahí en má fue Austria a lanzarse definitivamente al ataque buscando la igualdad y a Italia dedicada a contragolpear, su especialidad.

Y de esta manera sobre el final del primer período suplementario llegó el segundo gol de Pessina que había substituído a Barella)

El segundo tiempo que parecía destinado a una goleada italiana terminó en sufrimiento ya que a seis minutos del final Kalajdzic que había reemplazado a Arnautovic descontó para Austria.

Sin embargo ambos escuadras siguieron teniendo una actitud defensiva, uno buscando consolidar el resultado (Italia) y el otro buscando el empate que lo llevaría a los penales (Austria).

Una curiosidad: los tres goles fueron marcados por jugadores ingresados en el tiempo suplementario. Lo que da una idea de la intensidad del encuentro y de las energías gastadas por los que jugaron el partido completo.
