A few days ago, the fourth semifinalist of the Copa Libertadores de soccer was defined, the most important contest in Latin American soccer without a doubt.

We could say South American if it were not because in recent editions sometimes, not always, a representative from Central America has been added.

In recent editions we have witnessed a kind of "face wash" of the Copa Libertadores, with some teams that have not been out of tune at all.

Who does not remember the good performances of Caracas from Venezuela or Delfín from Ecuador in the first division since my and a few years ago, specifically since 2015. Teams that until recently did not even dream of being able to participate in the maximum football tournament. With equipment much less valued from an economic point of view. And yet leaving an excellent image.

Tenacity, perseverance, order, discipline. Gone are the years when the goalkeepers of these teams got tired of going to look for the ball at the back of the goal. And the same goes for the national teams.

However, when defining the positions that are played for the title, it seems that the classic soccer paternalism of Brazil and Argentina continues to reign.

The semifinalists of the Copa Libertadores 2020.

Although it will end up being played and defined, therefore, in the year 2020, this is the 2020 Copa Libertadores.

And two Argentine teams (the maximum exponents Boca and River) and two Brazilian teams Palmeiras and Santos reach the semifinals.

For those of us who are of a certain age to say Santos is to say Pelé, in the popular imagination. One made the other famous. And vice versa.

With Santos and that famous penalty that converted the Argentine goalkeeper Andrada, who at that time played for Vasco Da Gama, Pelé scored his 1,000th goal, although many do not agree with these statistics. And as if that were not enough in that temple of world football that is the Maracana stadium.

Recently, November 19, 2020 marked the 51st anniversary of this historic milestone in the annals of world football. Messi is not far away. we will see if it arrives. Surely he will not do it wearing the Barcelona jacket.

But we return to the semifinalists of the Libertadores. And to avoid suspicions I will do it in alphabetical order.

Boca Juniors.

Boca is always Boca as the saying goes. Cup team, fierce and since Russo has assumed technical leadership it is a very tactical team and difficult to overcome.

Many Argentines dream of another final like the one in Madrid.

Palmeiras.

Palmeiras is in 2020 what Flamengo was in 2019: the excellent candidate to win the Cup.

It is a solid team, with great figures, forceful in attack, and as if that were not enough they convert them from time to time. 29 goals in favor and only 4 against. Get scared.

As a detail not to neglect: he has experience in this stage of the competition.

River Plate.

This River since Marcelo Gallardo is in the technical leadership has won much more than his own supporters could imagine.

He has never stopped participating in the Libertadores in the last seven years and despite the numerous casualties due to transfers to clean up the club's finances, the popular "Muñeco" has managed to find substitutes so that absences are not noticed. Or, at least, that they do not affect the performance of the team. Candidate forced to the final.

Santos.

As I said earlier it is the surprise. In the beginning, there were other Brazilian teams that could compete for that place such as Flamengo, São Paulo, Inter, Gremio or Corintians.

The popular Brazilian club has a record: it is one of the few clubs that has never regressed to Serie B.

Who do you think can be the winner of the Libertadores?

Since 2000, Brazil and Argentina have overtaken the rest of South America. Previously, there was no such advantage.
