(ESP-ENG) Que pasó en el futbol europeo este fin de semana? // What happened in European football this weekend?
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
The leagues in Europe started rolling the ball a few weeks ago and we, as soccer fans, are looking forward to the weekend to enjoy great matches of the most important leagues in the old continent. This weekend was no exception and the truth is that there were great games with great results, others left us much to be desired and, as always, there were the expected ones. Let's see then what was the most relevant of European soccer in these past days.
- Liga Española // Spanish League.
We are still not seeing the best version of this new Ancelotti's Madrid despite the fact that they are at the top of their league. On Sunday they had to face an always complicated Valencia as visitors where "in extremis" they managed to win with goals from Vinicius and Benzema at 86 and 89 minutes respectively. Valencia were able to complicate the game and especially the second half with a goal at 66 minutes but when everything seemed lost, the Brazilian and the Frenchman came to save the dishes. Madrid won 2-1 in a somewhat drab game where if it wasn't for a little bit of individuality, they would lose the 3 points.
Yesterday the Catalans played against the team of Venezuelan Darwin Machis, Granada. A match that seemed to be a formality for Barca, especially because they were playing at home, turned out to be hell for the team coached by Koeman, a lost team that does not know what they are playing for. With a goal from the dressing room, Granada took the lead at the 2nd minute of the game and throughout the first half they were able to keep the blaugranas at bay; in the second half the scales tipped a little to the culés and it was after so much insistence that the 1-1 tie arrived at the 90 minute by the hand of Ronald Araujo. So it must have been that Piqué came on only to play as a 9. This great team still has a long way to go to be competitive again.
Atlético de Madrid - Athletic de Bilbao!
A game to forget for both teams, although there were generated plays, the lack of aiming sentenced the result. With a 0-0 draw, Simeone's team does not seem to be getting off to the right start in La Liga, they are in second place behind Real Madrid, but collective play is something that is lacking at the beginning of the season in the red and white team. In addition, Joao Félix was sent off in the 78 minute, which conditioned the end of the match.
Liga de Inglaterra // English Premier League.
Once again Cristiano Ronaldo was the star player and scored for the cause. This was truly a great game where there was no shortage of goal scoring options in which the Portuguese and Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea, saving a penalty in the 95th minute, were the real stars. The winning goal was scored by Jesse Lingard in the 89 minute, it seems that they agreed to score the goals when the matches are dying. United remain joint leaders with Chelsea and Liverpool with 13 points. 2-1 was the final score.
Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at Anfield with goals from Mané, Salah and Naby Keita. Klopp's men dominated a match with a 60% possession and more than 25 shots on goal, 10 of them direct, which allows them to keep the lead and remain undefeated in the current season. Chelsea were another side that did their homework properly, beating one of the big boys, Tottenham, 3-0 as well. The Blues are also having a very good start to the season under coach Tuchel, with goals from Kanté, Thiago Silva and Rudiger. Absolute domination of the match it must be said with a ball possession of 82%, a total barbarity.
And finally, Manchester City was held to a 0-0 draw by Southampton in a match without much to offer. City, who are fifth in the table, seem to be one of those teams that are finding it hard to get off the ground.
- Liga de Italia // Serie A.
The once nine-time consecutive champions are now in the relegation places with only 2 points out of a possible 12 and yes, I am talking about the team from Turin. A 1-1 draw between Morata and Rebic showed a lackluster Juventus that nobody understands what is happening to them, CR7 left and the team fell apart. I have faith that it is just a moment or a blip that many teams go through and that at any moment they will be back. On the other hand, Milan is having a good season, currently in 3rd place, and is still in the hunt for the leader Napoli.
What the reigning champions did to Bologna was a massacre. Inzaghi's pupils were the only protagonists in this game, 6-1. With goals from Lautaro Martinez, Skriniar, Barella, Vecino and Dzeko twice, the Bologna team could only score one goal 4 minutes before the end of the match. 11 direct shots of which 6 were goals, what an effectiveness. Inter comfortably in second place in the table.
- Liga Alemana // Bundesliga.
Speaking of massacres, Bayern beat the modest Bochum by a modest 7-0 and with a ball control of more than 70% and 15 direct shots on goal. Bayern is a steamroller and that is a reality, they crushed Barcelona in the Champions League and now they score 7 more goals for a total of 10 goals in just two games played. Sané, Kimmich, Gnabry, Lewandowski, among others were in charge of scoring goals against the second last team in the table.
Borussia Dortmund - Union Berlin!
Another exhibition by the android Haaland with a brace for his team to win 4-2. I sincerely believe that this player is not from this planet and that is because he has 68 goals in 67 games. Dortmund is another team that has been on a roll, placing third in the overall standings. In this specific match they came only 5 times but 4 of them were goals, almost 100% effectiveness and a possession of more than 65%.
Liga Francesa // Ligue 1.
Another team that won almost in the last minute of the match and where Messi still does not appear and be the determining factor that was expected to be, so much so that he was substituted almost 15 minutes before the end of the match, which is very rare to happen. Why? - Because Messi is Messi. A PSG that does not mesh their pieces despite having a LOT of quality, still ended up winning 2-1 with a goal by Icardi in the 93rd minute in a very even game.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well friends, that's all for today, I hope you liked it. Next week we will see each other again for another summary of the next dates.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
