Hoy compartiré mi publicación enfocado en el día del tenis celebrado ayer 04 de marzo y lo haré haciendo una breve y muy merecida reseña sobre quien es a mi criterio el mejor tenista de la historia en Venezuela.
Les hablo por supuesto del gran Nicolás Pereira.
Nicolás Pereira es Uruguayo de nacimiento, Venezolano por nacionalización y absolutamente lo es de corazón, Esto lo ha demostrado en más de una ocasión lo cual paso a comentarles.
En una reciente ENTREVISTA
realizada el pasado mes de diciembre a este deportista ejemplar , Nicolás comenta sobre las enormes dificultades por las que atravesó desde su llegada a nuestro país siendo tan solo un niño de tres años y en todo momento manifiesta su agradecimiento al país que los recibió con la manos abiertas y le permitió dar sus primeros pasos y posteriormente, desarrollarse como jugador de tenis profesional.
Fue en la década de los 80 cuando ese niño comenzó a brillar y mostrar sus grandes cualidades para jugar al tenis, el cual a pesar de ser un deporte de élite, representó el trampolín para enrumbarse al éxito.
Una de las claves fue que siempre contó con el apoyo incondicional de sus padres, el apoyo económico del club que lo vio iniciarse y mostrar talento innato, el Altamira Tenis Club de Caracas (Para el que ganó el recordado mundialito de clubes), y todo el esfuerzo y empeño que colocó día a día, incluso al término de tener que separarse de su familia para poder viajar a los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica con tan solo 12 años, para así cultivar su preparación deportiva en este maravilloso deporte. Y a pesar de haber recibido atractivas ofertas en representar a otros países, él en su honesto y desinteresado agradecimiento, decidió vestir el tricolor nacional.
Entre los logos más significativos de su carrera destacan en el año 1.988 en el cual ganó Wimbledon, Roland Garros y el USA Open siendo el flamante Campeón del mundo en categoría juvenil, esto es uno de los logros más relevantes de atleta alguno en un deporte y lo hizo defendiendo los colores patrios de nuestro amado país.
Participó de manera sobresaliente en la Copa Davis, al que ha llamado su torneo favorito y participó en los 4 grandes (Australia Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledom y USA Open).
Participó en las olimpiadas de Atlanta 1.996 y durante la década de los 90 enfrentó a los mejores exponentes del tenis a nivel mundial como lo fueron Ivan Lendl, Stefan Edber (quien fue hace poco tiempo entrenador de Roger Federer), André Agassi, Jim Courier, entre otros.
Recuerdo gratamente una noticia que dio la vuelta al mundo en el año 1.996 y la cual fue titulada en los principales periódicos del orbe con el siguiente título: “Nicolás Pereira derrumbó el muro de Berlin”, haciendo referencia a su victoria ante nada menos que el gran Boris Becker (quien fue hasta hace poco, el entrenador de Novak Djokovik), Dejándolo eliminado de esa competición, lo que nos llenó de orgullo una vez más.
FUENTE IMAGENDurante 20 años, hemos visto a este ejemplo de deportista en las transmisiones del mejor tenis mundial, ya que pertenece al Staff en el canal ESPN para Latinoamérica junto a grandes comentaristas de esta disciplina. En la mayoría de las veces lo hace desde la cancha y eso no es por casualidad, está asignado allí en el lugar de los acontecimientos ya que es un experto, un profesional y tiene un alto criterio para evaluar distintas situaciones del juego “in situ”.
En la actualidad el gran Nicolás Pereira pertenece como miembro del comité de tenistas retirados de la ATP y continua teniendo contacto con su pasión de vida y desde un lugar privilegiado, sigue trabajando como comentarista y llegó a ser el primer Latino en Tenis Channel (California - Estados Unidos) y lo hace en tres idiomas, su español natal, Italiano y Portugués, siendo considerado como el primer comentarista que logra semejante hazaña.
Con orgullo debemos reconocer a este eminente Venezolano, que le ha dado éxitos a su país y al que siempre menciona como su bandera. Acá en Venezuela, hablar de tenis es hablar de Nicolás Pereira y en el día mundial del tenis hago este pequeño homenaje a quien ha sido y sigue siendo nuestro máximo exponente.
