Nick Kyrgios sigue ganando sobre Césped. [Esp - Eng]

Las emociones de la gira tenística sobre césped continua, uno de los torneos categoría ATP 500, que se desarrollan durante esta semana, es el Noventi Open en la ciudad alemana de Halle, en su edición número 29. Hoy se ha gestado una jornada llena de sorpresas; y en mi opinión, el partido del día en los octavos de final, lo ha disputado el griego Stéfanos Tsitsipás ante el polémico australiano Nick Kyrgios. Un duelo de gran nivel, dado el buen desempeño de Nick sobre hierba, mientras que el griego es el segundo preclasificado en este evento y número 6 del ranking.

The emotions of the tennis tour on grass continues, one of the ATP 500 category tournaments, which are taking place this week, is the Noventi Open in the German city of Halle, in its 29th edition. Today has been a day full of surprises; and in my opinion, the match of the day in the round of 16, has been played by the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas against the controversial Australian Nick Kyrgios. A duel of high level, given the good performance of Nick on grass, while the Greek is the second pre-qualified in this event and number 6 in the ranking.

Este encuentro generó diversas expectativas, por el buen nivel de ambos, pero también porque a los dos les costó mucho pasar la primera ronda; y aunque Nick ascendió al puesto número 65 esta semana, tiene mejor récord de victorias sobre esta superficie, mientras que Stéfanos en su condición de favorito al título, cargaba con mayor presión sobre sus hombros. Al ver el inicio del partido tuve dos impresiones; y es que extrañamente el heleno se notaba muy inquieto en la línea de fondo, con pasos laterales apresurados que lo hacían parecer algo nervioso.

This match generated different expectations, because of the good level of both, but also because both had a hard time getting past the first round; and although Nick moved up to number 65 this week, he has a better record of victories on this surface, while Stefanos in his condition of favorite for the title, carried more pressure on his shoulders. Watching the start of the match I had two impressions; and that is that strangely the Greek looked very restless on the baseline, with hurried side-steps that made him look somewhat nervous.

No obstante, Stéfanos disipaba cualquier duda con su potente servicio, acertando gran cantidad de saques directos, logrando salir de algunos aprietos en el primer set; además pudo concretar puntos decisivos subiendo a la red, para dejar voleas y smashes de gran calidad. En el doceavo game puso en aprietos a Kyrgios, haciéndole incurrir en par de errores muy costosos, tanto que pudo quebrar y firmar el primer set por 7-5 en 43 minutos. Pero lo que parecía el acabose para Nick, terminó siendo un pequeño tropiezo, que luego pudo sobrellevar con gran soltura.

However, Stefanos dispelled any doubts with his powerful serve, hitting a great number of direct serves, managing to get out of some troubles in the first set; he was also able to score decisive points going up to the net, to leave volleys and smashes of great quality. In the twelfth game he put Kyrgios in trouble, making him make a couple of very costly errors, so much so that he was able to break and win the first set 7-5 in 43 minutes. But what seemed to be the end for Nick, ended up being a small setback, which he was able to overcome with great ease.

El australiano se mostró sereno durante la recepción y logró un quiebre importante en el primer game, lo extraño era que Tsitsipás parecía desesperarse por no poder imponer su juego; y es que el de Oceanía le estaba devolviendo todos los tiros con relativa facilidad. Stef erró un forehand largo, al que le imprimió mayor fuerza de la necesaria y se mostró molesto con el manejo de Kyrgios (normalmente es Nick quien explota y se desconcentra), pero en esta ocasión era al contrario jajaja. Para colmo el de Canberra comenzaba a atinar ejecuciones de lujo, con ese estilo que le caracteriza (inesperados tiros cruzados muy fuertes).

The Australian was serene during the reception and achieved an important break in the first game, the strange thing was that Tsitsipas seemed to despair for not being able to impose his game; and is that the Oceanian was returning all the shots with relative ease. Stef missed a long forehand, to which he gave more force than necessary and was annoyed with the handling of Kyrgios (usually it is Nick who explodes and lost concentration), but this time it was the opposite hahaha. To top it off, the Canberra native was starting to hit some great shots, with that style that characterizes him (unexpectedly strong crosscourt shots).

Kyrgios volvería a romper el saque griego en el quinto game, para luego sostener su ritmo sorpresivo, ante la actitud molesta de Stef; el 6 - 2 en 42 minutos, se sellaba con las gradas de pie para aplaudir al "Bad boy" del tenis, que estaba superando en potencia a un top ten consolidado. Durante el descanso Stef se quejó del tiempo extra que se tomaba Nick, demostrando su molestia e incomodidad (recordé cuando era precisamente él, quien se iba al baño a cambiarse de ropa y tardaba mucho en volver a la pista jajaja). Este capitulo era un mero juego mental, en el que Tsitsipás cayó fácilmente.

Kyrgios would break the Greek serve again in the fifth game, to then sustain his surprising rhythm, before the annoying attitude of Stef; the 6 - 2 in 42 minutes, was sealed with the stands standing to applaud the "Bad boy" of tennis, who was overcoming in power to a consolidated top ten. During the break Stef complained about the extra time Nick was taking, showing his annoyance and discomfort (I remembered when it was precisely him, who went to the bathroom to change clothes and took a long time to return to the court hahaha). This chapter was a mere mind game, in which Tsitsipas fell easily.

Y en la tercera manga, mientras Nick jugaba de manera tranquila y controlada, Stef se apresuraba y le imprimía mayor fuerza a sus tiros, como si quisiera "fusilar" a su rival jajaja. Esta manera de jugar le puso en problemas durante el quinto y séptimo games, donde Nick estuvo a punto de quebrar; pero el esfuerzo valió la pena, en el noveno con el ansiado break que daba la ventaja de oro para Kyrgios. Stef le cedió la iniciativa y recibió el castigo del australiano, que aprovechó pelotas en su zona de poder y ahora sacaba para el partido, el cual cerró en cero con un ace a la T.

And in the third set, while Nick was playing in a calm and controlled way, Stef was rushing and giving more force to his shots, as if he wanted to "shoot" his opponent hahaha. This way of playing put him in trouble during the fifth and seventh games, where Nick was about to break; but the effort was worth it, in the ninth with the longed break that gave the golden advantage to Kyrgios. Stef gave him the initiative and received the punishment from the Australian, who took advantage of balls in his power zone and now served for the match, which he closed at zero with an ace to the T.

El marcador 5-7, 6-2 y 6-4 detuvo el reloj en 2 horas con 5 minutos; en un gran partido para Kyrgios, lleno de jugadas de feria con la raqueta de revés y entre las piernas. Ese estilo sacó de sus casillas al griego, que cayó en la trampa mental y olvidó su juego de ataque hacia la red, para intentar sobra al contrario por la vía de la fuerza bruta, algo que no le resultó y terminó incurriendo tontos en errores no forzados. Mi aplauso para Nick que supo manejar su temperamento y parece haberlo contagiado a Tsitsipás jajaja. Ahora enfrentará al español Pablo Carreño en cuartos de final y tiene opciones de seguir sumando puntos y mejorando su nivel sobre la tradicional superficie de hierba.

The score 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 stopped the clock in 2 hours and 5 minutes; in a great match for Kyrgios, full of fair moves with the backhand racket and between the legs. That style took the Greek out of his mind, who fell into the mental trap and forgot his attacking game towards the net, to try to overpower the opponent by brute force, something that did not work out and ended up incurring silly unforced errors. My applause for Nick who knew how to manage his temperament and seems to have infected Tsitsipas hahaha. Now he will face the Spaniard Pablo Carreño in the quarterfinals and has options to continue adding points and improving his level on the traditional grass surface.
