La Serie Mundial ha llegado a su mitad y nos ha regalado emociones por millones. Si lo que se estaba esperando era una serie fácil o desnivelada, lo ocurrido en estos cuatro juegos nos han demostrado que la serie regular es una cosa y los play off otra.

En una publicación anterior di como favorito a los Phillies de Filadelfia, pero sin dejar de reconocer que objetivamente el equipo más completo y balanceado es el de los Astros de Houston.

En esta publicación daré algunas consideraciones de lo ocurrido en este momento en el que nos encontramos y que es en el Ecuador de la serie o a mitad de su culminación.

El inicio de esta serie estuvo matizado por acontecimientos que fueron vividos por todos y que vale la pena recordar. Mientras los Astros hicieron valer los pronósticos y barrieron a sus rivales de la postemporada, los Phillies tuvieron que imponerse a todos sus rivales y de "Caperucita" se convirtieron en lobos, para dejar en el camino a equipos que tenían muchos más avales que ellos y que en la serie regular habían demostrado su favoritismo, como fue el caso de los vigentes campeones de la Serie Mundial: Los Bravos de Atlanta.

Primer Juego

El inicio de la Serie Mundial hacía presagiar el vaticinio generalizado de que los Astros barrerían a los Phillies, pues, apenas culminarse el 1er tercio ya mandaban 5 carreras por 0. Por si fuera poco, los Astros tenían a su estelar pitcher Justin Verlander quien estaba a punto de conseguir su primera victoria en series mundiales, algo que le ha sido esquivo.

Pero los Phillies estaban decididos a cambiar la historia y de la misma manera que le hicieron 5 carreras en el primer tercio del encuentro les devolvieron la dosis a sus rivales en el segundo tercio y empataron el juego. Nuevamente Justin Verlander fue incapaz de conservar una ventaja y aún, cuando no perdió desaprovechó la oportunidad de apuntarse su primera victoria en una serie mundial.

En este juego fue clave el trabajo de los relevistas de los Phillies, su defensa, sobre todo la gran atrapada de Nick Castellanos en el noveno inning evitando que los Astros los dejaran al campo y el jonrón en el décimo del receptor Realmuto que puso delante a los de Filadelfia, para que ganaran el importante primer juego y más sigmificativo aún, porque lo hacían de visitante y remontando una gran diferencia.

Segundo Juego.

En este encuentro los Astros salieron a por todas y decididos a igualar la serie. Tenían claro que una derrota los ponía en una situación muy peligrosa, pues los Phillies irían a su cuartel general donde han sido invencibles en esta postemporada.

Desde el primer inning los Astros salieron agresivos y marcaron tres carreras que a la larga fueron suficientes, para que ganaran el segundo juego. No contentos con esto marcaron dos más en el quinto inning y se ponían más cómodos en el marcador. Esto, combinado con el gran trabajo de su pitcher ganador Framber Valdés hizo que los Astros empataran la serie, ante los Phillies que se vieron dominados por el pitcheo rival y solo pudieron anotar dos carreas en las entradas 7 y 9, pero no se iba a cambiar la historia.

En la victoria de los Astros fue clave el bateo oportuno y productivo de los Astros encabezados por José Altuve, Yordan Álvarez y Alex Bregman y el gran pitcheo de Framber Valdés que maniató a los bateadores del equipo rival.

Tercer Juego.

El tercer juego tuvo que ser suspendido de su fecha original, a causa de las condiciones climáticas y se pospuso, para el siguiente día.

Este encuentro se puede definir de la siguiente manera: fue una fiesta de batazos de 4 esquinas que decantaron el juego, para los de Filadelfia que se apoyaron en eso y en sus lanzadores, para dominar a la fuerte artillería de los Astros. El encuentro terminó con el marcador de 7 carreras por 0 y fueron claves los 5 jonrones de los Phillies que se combinó con la buena labor monticular de Ranger Suárez y la pobre ofensiva de los Astros.

Aquí se produjo un hecho inédito, pues, por primera vez un pitcher soporta 5 jonrones en un juego de serie mundial y ese record negativo le correspondió a Lance McCullers Jr.

Cuarto Juego.

Aquí se cumplió el axioma beisbolero que reza que cuando hay pitcheo no hay bateo. Después de conectar 5 jonrones en el juego 3 los de Filadelfia fueron silenciados en el cuarto juego de la serie y no pudieron anotarle a los pitcher de los Astros que les devolvieron la lechada recibida en el juego anterior.

En este partido todo fue para los Astros, pero el protagonismo se lo llevó el pitcheo que logró un juego sin hits, el segundo de toda la historia de las Series Mundiales y los Astros quebraron a los Phillies, quienes perdieron su primer partido, como home club en esta postemporada.

Otro elemento importante de esta victoria es que los Astros fuerzan un sexto partido y que la serie vuelva a sus predios.

Una reflexión final

Ha sido una serie mundial digna de una de las mejores competiciones que se juegan en todo el planeta y por demás, ha sido un play una serie bastante igualada y no porque est{e dos victorias por bandos, sino porque han tenido una victoria y una derrota en cada uno de los estadios y porque se han compartido una lechada por bando.

El quinto juego será crucial por varias razones, pues quien gane se coloca a un juego del campeonato de la Serie Mundial, pero no solo por eso, pues hay dos preguntas bien interesantes: ¿Perderán dos juegos consecutivos los Phillies como visitantes? y, ¿Logrará ganar Justin Verlander en Series Mundiales?

Si la respuesta a estas dos interrogantes es afirmativa, para mí los Astros ganan el campeonato. En caso contrario se ratifica mi pronóstico antes del inicio de la Serie Mundial que da a los Phillies de Filadelfia como campeones.

Por el momento, sólo me resta seguir disfrutando de la Serie Mundial y agradecer a todo el que leyó esta publicación.

In a previous publication I gave the Philadelphia Phillies as the favorite, but without forgetting that objectively the most complete and balanced team is the Houston Astros.

In this publication I will give some considerations of what happened in this moment in which we find ourselves and that is in the equator of the series or halfway to its culmination.

The beginning of this series was tinged by events that were experienced by all and that are worth remembering. While the Astros made the predictions come true and swept their postseason rivals, the Phillies had to beat all their rivals and turned from "Little Red Riding Hood" into wolves, to leave on the road teams that had many more endorsements than them and that in the regular series had demonstrated their favoritism, as was the case of the reigning World Series champions: the Atlanta Braves.

Game 1

The start of the World Series foreshadowed the generalized prediction that the Astros would sweep the Astros, since, as soon as the 1st third was over, they were already leading 5 runs by 0. As if that were not enough, the Astros had their stellar pitcher Justin Verlander who was on the verge of his first World Series victory, something that has eluded him.

But the Phillies were determined to change history and in the same way that they scored 5 runs in the first third of the game, they gave back to their rivals in the second third and tied the game. Once again, Justin Verlander was unable to keep a lead and even though he did not lose, he missed the opportunity to score his first victory in a World Series.

The key in this game was the work of the Phillies' relievers, their defense, especially Nick Castellanos' great catch in the ninth inning preventing the Astros from leaving them on the field and the home run in the tenth inning by catcher Realmuto that put Philadelphia ahead, to win the important first game and even more significant because they were doing it away and coming back from a big difference.

Game 2.

In this game, the Astros went all out and determined to even the series. It was clear to them that a loss would put them in a very dangerous situation, as the Phillies would go to their headquarters where they have been invincible in this postseason.

From the first inning the Astros came out aggressively and scored three runs, which in the long run was enough for them to win the second game. Not content with this, they scored two more in the fifth inning and became more comfortable on the scoreboard. This, combined with the great work of their winning pitcher Framber Valdes made the Astros tie the series, against the Phillies who were dominated by the rival pitching and could only score two runs in the 7th and 9th innings, but the story was not going to change.

The key to the Astros' victory was the timely and productive batting of the Astros led by José Altuve, Yordan Álvarez and Alex Bregman and the great pitching of Framber Valdés, who kept the opposing team's hitters at bay.

Game 3.

The third game had to be suspended from its original date due to weather conditions and was postponed for the following day.

This game can be defined as follows: it was a party of 4-corner hits that won the game for Philadelphia, who relied on that and on their pitchers to dominate the Astros' strong artillery. The game ended with a score of 7 runs to 0 and the 5 home runs of the Phillies were key, combined with the good work of Ranger Suarez and the poor offense of the Astros.

An unprecedented event took place here, as for the first time a pitcher hit 5 home runs in a World Series game, and that negative record belonged to Lance McCullers Jr.

Game 4.

Here the baseball axiom that says that when there is pitching there is no hitting was fulfilled. After hitting 5 home runs in Game 3, Philadelphia was silenced in the fourth game of the series and could not score against the Astros' pitchers who returned the slugging received in the previous game.

In this game everything was for the Astros, but the pitching took the lead in a no-hit game, the second in the history of the World Series, and the Astros broke the Phillies, who lost their first game as a home club in this postseason.

Another important element of this victory is that the Astros force a sixth game and the series returns to their home turf.

A final thought

It has been a World Series worthy of one of the best competitions played all over the planet and, moreover, it has been a fairly evenly matched series, not because there have been two wins on each side, but because they have had a win and a loss in each of the stadiums and because they have shared a loss on each side.

Game 5 will be crucial for several reasons, as the winner will be one game away from the World Series championship, but not only for that, as there are two very interesting questions: Will the Phillies lose two consecutive away games, and will Justin Verlander win in the World Series?

If the answer to these two questions is yes, for me the Astros win the championship. If not, my prediction is ratified before the start of the World Series that gives the Philadelphia Phillies as champions.
