Monsters and Summoners!

Hey guys!

When I started playing Splinterlands and went to ask for tips in Discord's chat, one of the first things they told me was exactly what I will explain in this post.

At the time I was very anxious, and so I did not pay attention and started to combine and upgrade several cards at random.

This is a very common mistake that causes the player to not be able to use his cards properly.

The first thing we should know is the difference between monsters and summoners.

MonsterSummoner.png

Monsters, that is, all cards that enter the battlefield, those that appear in the center of the screen in a battle, are subordinate to the summoner.

It means that it is the level of your summoner that determines the level of the monsters that may appear in combat.

Therefore, even if you have a monster at maximum level, it will not be able to use its full strength in battle if your summoner is level 3 for example.

Knowing how this works exactly for each type of summoner and each type of monster is very important so that you can build your deck efficiently, in order not to spend $ unnecessarily on cards that you will not be able to use.

So, the second important thing is that in addition to the elements of each card, the splints: water, earth, fire, life, death, and dragon, each of them also has a level of rarity: common, rare, epic and legendary.

Thus, both monsters and summoners, no matter what splint it is, can have one of these 4 types of rarities, which is important to distinguish.

One of the interesting aspects of different rarities is that the rarer, the fewer cards are needed combining to obtain higher-level cards or to maximize them.

Entering the stats page of a card you can see these details, let's look at 2 summoners to see the difference, starting with Pyre, a rare Fire summoner from the Untamed edition:

Pyre.png

Next to LVL, it shows how many cards (BCX) you need combining for it to evolve into that LVL.

For example to have it level 3 you need 14 cards.

And you see some colored balls on the right?

These are the types of monsters he can summon for each LVL he is in:

white = common, blue = rare, purple = epic and yellow = legendary

If you look at the summoner at level 3, it means that he can summon a common level 4, rare level 3, and epic and legendary level 2, etc.

Now notice the difference when we look at an Epic summoner like Kretch Tallevor:

See that only 46 cards are needed to maximize it, a much smaller amount compared to the previous one that requires 115.

Many players do not like this summoner because it does not add any stats or abilities, but they forget that it is an epic summoner, and this has certain advantages.

Thus, in the Bronze League, for example, rare and epic summoners can be used up to level 2, as we can see in the bottom frame of this image:

Leaguse 3.png

Now going back to the epic summoner and looking at those colored balls we can see that while a rare level 2 summoner summons at most:

Common level 3, rare level 2, epic and legendary level 1 monster.

A level 2 epic summoner, can summon level 3 common, level 3 rare, level 2 epic, and level 1 legendary.

Realize in the Bronze League, a clear advantage for the epic summoner, he can summon rare and epic monsters one level higher than what rare summoners can do.

This also occurs in the Gold League:

Here level 5 epic summoners are allowed and they can summon rare level 7 monsters, while a rare summoner even at level 6, can only summon a rare level 6 monsters.

Knowing these advantages, you can use epic summoners to play cards with higher levels than an opponent who uses a rare summoner.

See below all the epic summoners in the game today:

Realize that Kretch Tallevor is quite underestimated, and at the moment it is by far the cheapest on the market.

With it, in addition to having access to the dragon splint with a cost of only 3 mana, you can get an advantage in the Bronze and Gold leagues, summoning some monsters with higher levels compared to enemies using other types of summoners.

Here's the tip! Well, that's it for today! I hope you enjoyed it and see you soon!

I've also noticed that Kretch Tallevor is undervaled right now compared to other summoners. During the end of season rewards card dumps, I've been buying some up for super cheap.

@ninjamike yes, besides that, almost nobody realizes that he is an epic summoner, and can be excellent for example in bronze and gold league tournaments, because of the advantages that I exposed above. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Another awesome article. I do need to level up my Summoners at some point. It makes life a whole lot easier.

Thanks! @shaidon. Well, unfortunately the cards have been so expensive recently, but there is no solution, or maybe renting. :)

Yes. But they aren't going to get cheaper unless someone sells their collection, so that's the price we have to pay.
