A Gang Attack (Self Defense Situation # 152)

You are alone and you see a group of people approach towards you. If they are the attackers, you might get in trouble. Dealing with multiple attackers is difficult. When you are being attacked, they will not come one by one so that you can fight with them in a nice and clean manner.

Welcome back to Self Defense Situation # 152.

Every situation is different and you cannot fit one thing in every situation. What works in one situation, that might not work in another situation. When you fight for self defense, your move should be based on the situation.

They come and attack you at the same time. Now you have to defend against multiple attacks. You defend someone's punch and kick, and then get hit by others kick. One attacker can grab you and others will beat you up.

If they do not have a weapon like a gun, you can run to get out of there. If they have a gun, they can shoot you from behind while running. If you know where you are and your surroundings, you can run and hide somewhere or you might not end up in a dead-end while running.

You have to decide at that moment. If you run and get out of there, that's great. Otherwise, they have to face them and find a way to get out of there. When you fight with an attacker, your complete focus on that single attacker. On the other hand, it is completely different when you fight with multiple attackers.

If you only look at a single attacker, you have no idea from where you get hit. So while defending and attacking, you have to look at others. You will find moving, grabbing, and striking very useful. You can defend and grab one attacker and at the same time, attack another attacker.

You can use one attacker as a shield so that they cannot get close to you and attack you easily. In a gang attack, try to keep attackers in front of you. Do not end up in a corner during the fight. You might get trapped and find it different to get out of there.

I recommend watching this video where it shows some basic ideas. I don't know the language they are speaking. If you understand the language, that's great.

Thank you so much for reading this post. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.

I did some martial arts ad self-defence training for several years, and we ran scenarios for two-three people attack on one of us. The main thing was to use a lot of groin kicks, elbow punches etc. - anything that can inflict quick damage and incapacitate as many attackers as possible. It is interesting how quickly people will stop from attacking you if they sense that you know what you are doing. However, if there is a knife involved then we were told that the best solution would be to run away (if you can). It is not worth it confronting someone with a knife, unless you are very skilled in self-defence. Shielding yourself with one of the attackers is not actually that easy, as it will slow you down and also limit your filed of vision.

I agree with you. It's not that easy when you are facing the attackers and you are under pressure. It's a strategy you can use if it happens. In some situations, you can find it useful. Keeping an eye on the attackers while fighting is very important. Otherwise, you just don't know what's going on.
