What To Do If The Attacker Punches You From Behind?
Surprise attack can put you in a vulnerable position. You have no idea that you are going to be attacked. When you realize that, the attacker has already attacked you and keeps attacking. Today we are going to talk about what you can do to defend yourself if someone punches you from behind.
There can be two situations. One, you feel that something is wrong, so you are kinda prepared. Two, you have no idea about the attack. It is difficult to defend the first punch if you are not aware of the situation and you cannot sense anything.
To defend yourself against punch from behind, try to be more aware of your surroundings. If someone gets close to you, and you feel something is about to happen, you can put yourself in a better position to protect yourself.
The attacker hit you with the first punch from behind, now what? You might think you will do this or do that. Let's try to understand what happens when you get hit. You are shocked and feel the pain. You might be in a panic mode.
It might take some time to understand what's going on and get back to defensive mode. The sooner you understand that you are being attacked, the better.
You think you will not look at the attacker, just put your head down, try to save yourself. If you do that, you expose your back. And it gives the attacker more opportunities to attack you. The attacker can do anything from behind.
In a situation like this, usually, you are in a bad position to defend yourself. Put your hands up, turn, and counter-attack. You have to turn and face the attacker, otherwise, he will keep attacking you.
Make your move from that bad position. The thing is, you will get enough space and a good position when you are being attacked. You have to make your move from that angle. When you start striking, the attacker might find it difficult to attack you.
Now your martial arts skills can help you deal with the situation. The attacker usually has an intention behind the attack. If you are able to intercept that, you can protect yourself.
So what would you do if someone punches you from behind? Please feel free to share your thoughts and experience in the comment section. Thank you so much for reading this post.
Stay safe. Always be happy!

I didn't quite understand the part where you said we should put our hands up. How does that help?
When you are attacked from behind, you are not facing the attacker. So put your hands up, turn to face the attacker, and strike instantly. If you want to defend any strike and attack, it is better to keep your hands. That's why you see in a fighting stance, martial artists keep their hands up.
You're more likely to do that if you are trained. Thank you @prayzz for your question.
Wait I think I get it now. By "up" do you mean in front of me?
Like the way they do in the movies when they take their stance.
Yes, your hands should be up and that's in front of you to fight, not to keep hands up like you are surrendering. :)
Hope this makes clear, my friend!
Yup. I thought you meant above my head. That what was why I was confused at first. But I understand now.
Lovely post as always. Can't wait for your next martial art content. It's always entertaining.
