When you learn martial arts, you learn to move in a certain way. Your strike and defense are highly influenced by the martial art you practice. So even seeing the fighting stance or some moves, you can tell which martial art he/she is practicing.
You learn to strike and at the same, you practice how to defend yourself. You practice different blocks and parry. You do sparring with your training partner. So you get used to observing your opponent's moves and you know what to do to defend that.
When we deal with a situation where someone attacks you, he is not trained like you are. You will not see his moves like you are used to seeing your training partner. Are you able to recognize what the attacker is about to do?
Even if you understand what he is about to do, in case you response is not fast enough, you will get hit. Sometimes you face something that is unexpected and you have never trained to defend something like that. This is not practicing ground. You’re not wearing any gloves and mouthguards. One punch on your face can make some serious damage.
Or, there are multiple attackers and they are approaching in different directions. Their intention can be different. They might want your money or anything valuable you have. Or, they might kidnap you, and you have no idea what will happen after that. You don’t have any idea that you will be trapped on the ground behind the car.
In a situation like this, the most effective move would be adapting to the situation. If you learn to adapt, they will find it hard to beat you. You can change your move or do something that you have never done before. You can have a strategy but you cannot plan for the fight. It happens unexpectedly and suddenly.
Understanding the situation is the most important thing that can help you adapt to the situation. If they want your money, you can give your money and see how they respond, if they are still going to attack you, you have no choice. Or, if their intention is to kidnap you and you have no idea what would happen. Once they are able to kidnap you, they are in charge. To defend yourself, your every move should be preventing them from kidnapping you.
When you face something different, try to understand what’s going on, adapt to it, and make your move accordingly. Thank you so much for reading this post. Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
