Is this an Opium Poppy?

While I was out for another 5K run this evening, I passed a garden that demanded my full attention.
At first I thought I was looking at the bright red flowers of the opium poppy, which apparently a homeowner planted in his garden.
Once back home, I did a little research and found that although this type of poppy contains alkaloids in small amounts, it is not the actual poppy from which opium is made.
Here in Germany, this poppy is called a garden or bush poppy, the planting of which is permitted for decorative purposes. However, the sale of plant parts is prohibited.
Während ich heute Abend noch einen 5 km Lauf machte, kam ich an einem Garten vorbei, der meine volle Aufmerksamkeit forderte.
Zuerst glaubte ich die grell rot leuchtenden Blüten des Schlafmohns vor mir zu haben, den offenbar ein Hausbesitzer in seinem Garten anpflanzte.
Zuhause angekommen, recherchierte ich ein wenig und habe festgestellt, dass diese Art von Mohnblume zwar in geringen Mengen Alkaloide enthält, aber nicht der eigentliche Mohn ist, aus dem Opium hergestellt wird.
Hier in Deutschland wird dieser Mohn als Garten- oder Staudenmohn bezeichnet, deren Bepflanzung zur Zierde erlaubt ist. Der Verkauf von Pflanzenteilen ist allerdings verboten.

Not all poppies have opium. That said, there is one way to find out hahaha
Oriental Poppies are indeed beautiful! We used to have a ton of them when we lived in Colorado. Since moving to Washington state, I've not had a lot of success with them. Living in the forest, the slugs LOVE them and have mowed them down overnight after planting. I'm trying again this year; in a pot, up on tree stump. Hopefully, the little vermin don't find them this time!
