My FungiFriday Report Card: September 11 2020

(Edited)

Friday.

The weather was amazing and that meant my walk today would take me back to the forest to find more fungi for #fungifriday.

And I did find quite a bunch, too. But first I found a different little surprise. Remember the googly eyed dino-deer from the bottom of last week's #fungifriday report?

Yes, that's the same one. It has moved! It turned around looking the other way and it moved a couple of inches to the side.

So that means someone has noticed my googly "art" and appreciated it enough to pick it up and carefully place it back down afterwards.

It's a googly mission accomplished when that happens, that's what this #googlyeyes thing is all about, hiding little surprises to make curious random strangers smile

But it's Friday, so let's look at some fungi now.

Whoa... I think this big headed fellow might have had a little too much sunshine. Collapsed under its own weight, allthough, when I picked it up the whole thing felt featherlight. All dried up.

Further into the forest a bright orange something caught my eye. Some mycelium munching away at the wood of this cut tree and blooming in a variety of shapes.

An alien looking coral-like structure with layers of tiny orange balconies sticking out from the shady bottom of the stump.

And an even more orange bulbous growth on top.

This #fungifriday walk was off to a great start, and we're just getting started here.

Next I noticed this little thing poking out of the side of a mossy fallen over tree.

A bit hard to see but worth a second look. This little specimen pushing out from the rotten substrate underneath the moss.

And then... I found the money-shot. This is what a proper mushroom is supposed to look like:

A girthy stem with a perfectly colored delicious looking round and shiny cap.

Discovering the spongy underside immediately made it a little less appetizing, though.

And I know very little, well, basically nothing about these mushrooms, so I wasn't going to try and eat them anyway. Certainly not the next one:

That orange colour, almost neon, it looked absolutely hazardous!

It was the last little shroom I found on the walk, but in the evening, taking a detour to the supermarket, I remembered the impressive mushroom I saw on Tuesday was just around the corner, too.

I guess it didn't like all the sunshine we had during the past days too much.

Since I didn't find the time to look up any of the mushrooms I showed you today I can't provide any educational facts. But let me introduce you to the small-flowered touch-me-not instead.

This plant, locally called "Springkraut", grows everywhere in the woods around here. When I was a kid it provided me with hours of fun. See for yourself:

Thanks for your time!

Your Dyno went for a fungi hunt too! Good he made it back on time ;)
I know that plant too! And it still gives me a lot of fun when I see it :p The secret is to pick the fattest pods.

Happy Fungifriday! :)

The secret is to pick the fattest pods.

Oh yes!! You know what's up! The ones that barely need any touch at all to explode... heh.

I was thrilled to learn they're called "touch-me-nots" in English, though... how cute is that?!
