Berlin walk with 1.6K steps / ベルリン散歩（My Actifit Report Card: March 22 2024）

Thanks to the strike, I had a ticket to Berlin that was not assigned a date and time, so I came to Berlin.

I wanted to visit the gardening corner of Germany's best select store and the spring/summer collection of my favorite German clothing store, which will be closing next month.

As usual when I come to Berlin, I walk and walk, and even though it was raining, I walked more than 15,000 steps. If it had been sunny, I would have walked 20,000 steps 😁

In the city where I live, the trains to the main train station are jam-packed due to the local public transportation strike, and the train to Berlin is also full because it has been shortened (shortened!?) ...and there were also delays. But since I was alone, it didn't matter.

I arrived in Berlin and immediately headed to Manufactum, a store full of selected quality products. I never get tired of looking at the items lined up, but this time of the year is even more enjoyable because they have a full lineup of gardening supplies.

I bought a pump that will gently water newly sown seeds and a book about wild edible plants. I will read it for this year's berry picking bike ride 🚲

This store is located in West Berlin, so I took a train to a district called Mitte in the center of Berlin. I stayed there when I first came to Berlin, and I often stayed at a friend's house after that. It has been genttified up a lot.

I don't know the details of the situation, but Wolfen, which sells German-made clothes that I love, is also closing because they can't keep the store 🥲 I recently saw their latest spring/summer items on Instagram and they were simple and beautiful as always.

I took time to try on some items in the quiet store. I gave up on the shirt I was looking for because it was a bit large. Instead I bought two cotton-based sweaters for upcoming seasons, one long-sleeved and one short-sleeved. I took a picture to remember the store when as I left. Such a nice small good old Berlin store on that street.

I wonder if this is the last time or if I can come next month right before the store closes. Even though the business world is tough, it is very sad to see such a store with a nice atmosphere offering good products is closing …

I almost missed my lunch so I went to a cafe like an open coworking space Basecamp that I used to go frequently with my partner when I lived in Berlin. This place is a hole in the wall where you can work or enjoy relaxed time. The young waiter gave me an extra dessert with my last bowl of soup. Even though we are now under the tough inflation, it was 3.9 euros. It cost the same before. I splurged on a tip and ordered coffee after my meal 😊

I met with my family who came after school and work, we took a short break, and I went for another walk to Galeries Lafayette, a French department store that is closing this year. I bought some macarons that my daughter had seen in a cartoon and wanted to try, and a quiche and salad for my evening meal. I went to the accessories section where accessories with good design are sold at reasonable prices, and I bought a pair of earrings as a souvenir as always.

Since we rarely go out for a meal as a family because our tastes are too varied, so we ate what each of us wanted to eat at the hotel room.

Even after dinner, my walk was not over yet. It may not be unusual in Japan, but in Berlin, there is a huge bookstore, Dussmann, in the middle of the city that is open until midnight. And the hotel is right in front of it 🥳 So I went for a late night bookstore stroll. It was my dream for years.

I used to do this a lot when I was in Tokyo, but it's been a while since I moved to Kyoto and then to Germany, but it's still a lot of fun. I wonder how many hours I spent looking around at cooking, gardening, language books and stationeries 😅 In the end I bought German textbooks for my daughter and me.

After walking around and seeing many things that stimulated me, I went back to my room, jumped into bed, and had a good night's sleep.

I wonder when I can come to Berlin next. It’s not far, just 90 minutes train ride. I was born and grew up in Tokyo, and as I got older, I like nature, but I love big cities.

ストのおかげで日時指定が外れたベルリン行きのチケットがあったので、ベルリンに遊びにきました。

ドイツ随一のセレクトショップの園芸コーナーと、来月で閉店してしまう大好きなドイツ製の洋服屋さんの春夏のコレクションをみたかったのです。

毎度のことながらベルリンに来ると歩く歩く、雨にもかかわらず余裕の15000歩超えでした。晴れていたら20000歩歩いてしまいそうです😁

私の住む街は地域の公共交通のストで駅までの電車はぎゅうぎゅう、ベルリンまでの電車も短くなったとのことでぎゅうぎゅう…さらに運行の遅れもあり、まさにドイツ鉄道。でも1人なのでどうにでもなります。

遅れはあったものの無事ベルリンに到着してさっそく雑貨屋さんのManufactumに向かいました。いつ訪れても質の良い雑貨が並んでいて、見ていて飽きないのですが、この時期はガーデニング用品が充実していてさらに楽しいです。

まいたばかりの種にやさしく水をやれそうなポンプと、野生の食べられる植物ガイドを買いました。今年のベリー摘みサイクリングに向けて勉強します。

このお店は西ベルリンにあるので、電車でベルリンの中心部Mitteという地区に移動しました。一番最初にベルリンに来たときに滞在して、そのあとたびたび友人宅に滞在させてもらった思い出の地区です。ずいぶんきれいになってしまいました。おしゃれにきれいになって、昔からの人たちが家賃の高騰などからいなくなってしまうことをジェントリフィケーションといいますが、ここもまさに。

詳しい事情は知らないのですが、私が大好きなドイツ製の洋服を販売しているWolfenも物件の契約がままならず閉店するようです🥲最近インスタで新作を見て相変わらずステキだったので、見に来ました。

静かな店内で長々試着させてもらって、お目当てだったシャツはサイズが合わずに諦めましたが、木綿ベースのセーターを長袖と半袖2枚購入しました。お店を後にするときに思い出に一枚写真を撮りました。

今回が最後かな、それとも来月閉店直前に来られるかな。ビジネスの世界は厳しいとはいえ、こうしていい製品を提供する雰囲気のいいお店がなくなってしまうのはとても悲しいです。

お店を見ていたらお昼時を過ぎてしまったので、ベルリンに住んでいたときによく利用したオープンコワーキングスペースのようなカフェへ。ここは穴場でゆったり休憩したり仕事したりできます。若い店員さんが最後のスープにおまけでデザートをつけてくれました。このインフレかなのになんと3.9ユーロ（650円ほど！）。チップをはずんで食後にコーヒーも注文しました😊

学校と仕事が終わってから来た家族と合流して、しばし休憩してまた散歩へ。今度はこれまた今年閉店してしまうフランスのデパートGaleries Lafayetteへ。子供がアニメで見て食べたいと言っていたマカロンを買って、私の夜食のキッシュとサラダを買いました。いい感じのアクセサリーが手頃な価格で売られているアクセサリーコーナーものぞいて、ピアスも一つお土産に。

我が家では好みがバラバラすぎることもあり、家族で大きな外食をすることはほとんどなく、各自が食べたいものをホテルで食べました。

お夕飯を食べてもまだ散歩は終わりません。日本では珍しくないかもしれませんが、ベルリンにはなんと市のど真ん中に0時まで開いている巨大な本屋さんDussmannがあるのです。そしてホテルはその真ん前！ということで深夜の本屋散策に行ってきました。

東京時代はよくしたこんな深夜散歩も京都、ドイツに移ってご無沙汰でしたが、やっぱり楽しいですね。料理や園芸、語学の本、文具を見てまわって、何時間いたんだろう😅最後に子供と私のドイツ語のテキストを買いました。

歩いていろいろなものを見て刺激を受けて、部屋に戻ってベッドに飛び込んでぐっすり眠りました。

次はいつベルリンに来られるかな。東京生まれ東京育ちということもあり、歳をとってからは自然も好きですが、大きい街が大好きです。
