Wake to a clear sky for day 17 of Border to Border. Started a little late as had to spend 10 minutes cleaning up a glass I dropped. Wind blowing from north is strong.
Target is Orange - just on 100 kms away. A few photos from Wellington - old post office
Ride starts down hill into a green valley - photo near Newrea
A few biggish hills. Traffic is modest. Brown snake on the road did move when I came by - about 1.5 metres long.
Rest break just after that hill was welcome. Then easier run along Molong Creek to Molong. Long rest break for coffee and lunch there watching a little bit of cricket on the village green
Ride from there turns up hill with 500 meters climbed in 37 kms. I am overheating with wind behind and no air from the front. Stop a few times on the big hills to turn and face the wind for cooling.
Orange sign is at 8 kms and still one big hill to go - first magpie of the afternoon.
The town of Orange is on top of the far hill
I am happy to see my wife waiting at a park not far from our friend's house. Has been a hard 6 days and I am tired.
Staying with a great friend. I will do a rest day Sunday while my wife drives back to Sydney. Her support made this week possible. My friend invited a few friends over and we had a long late bbq dinner and lots of wine. Great way to round out the week.
