My Actifit Report Card: December 2 2020

Been 6 years since I first visited Blue Mountains to learn about orchids. Went again today

Walked down to Empress Falls before following Nature Track

Was looking for a specific orchid but did not find it. May have flowered earlier than prior visits. This bronze skink found a safe place and then stayed still for photos

First orchid find was a tongue orchid not seen in this part of the track before

Did spy this orchid closing up in a spot I remember

Not as many plants as last time. Did find a plant flowering

Close up is pretty special

Quite a few fringed lilies on the upside of the hill

Did find the veined sun orchid in same spot as last time - one plant withering and one in full bloom

Reached a fork in the track and walked a section I have not walked before. Just as well as there were potato orchids aplenty. The one that grows next to the car park had already gone to seed

This butterfly was the perfect model. I did zoom for a photo and then moved in closer and it did not move. I know where aircraft roundels came from

I knew where to expect hyacinth orchids - got this teaser

Not far off was another plant - flowering.

So 5 orchids in a session. Disappointing to miss out on the star of that last 2018 show.

I drove down the mountain a bit to take a lunch break at Woodford rest area I saw on the way up. Walked the fire trail a bit - dodgy place - but did find flying duck orchids

Did find a few more plants in better shape

This orchid is a bit unusual. When it detects a pollinator close to the column it folds up closed to hold the pollinator captive - maybe 30 minutes. Here is a sample

As I look back at photos from first visit in 2014, I did see the flying duck orchid - been 6 years to find more

Trade action: Bought Canadian marijuana ACB.TO APHA.TO and sold covered calls. Tipped up CCI. Sold covered call on XOP.

Dinner: Fried rice for my wife. BBQ for me.
