My Actifit Report Card: January 20 2021

in Actifitlast month

Rain overnight and a cloudy day. Had to go to fetch my wife's car from spray painter. Forecast was for cloudy but dry. Plan then to ride up to spray painter via national park to check out the progress on the endangered orchid seen on Friday. Focused on riding down and up the hill and recorded fastest time up. That is what happens when I do not stop for orchids.

Parked the bike short of where the rare orchid is and walked back in a grassy area to see if I could find midge orchids. Got lucky - corunastylis fimbriatus = a first for me.

Only when I get home do I see the detail of pollinator action - zoom in and you will find 3 pollinators in attendance.

Coruanstlyis ready to flower

Walked a bit further and found a different corunastylis on the other side of the track

Close up is a clue to ID - green flowers

Pollinator action with pollen attached

Step back view

Found this one on the way back to the bike - labellum pointing upward - might be freak midge orchid - corunastylis apostasioides

More green tips

No green tips

A few dipodium variegatum

Found the rare orchid site again. Spot that had 3 plants last week has only two - a budding plant and this one - genoplesum baueri. One has succumbed or I could not find it.

Zoom in to see a green bug - not the normal pollinator. Two more plants further up the track

Hard to focus as flower is small - maybe 3 mm long in this photo

5th orchid for the day is a large tongue orchid - a few flowers left - cryptostylis subulata

Step back photo of the freak midge orchid

Still working on IDs of the midge orchids

Nice outcome and a good way to do the get the car chore.

Dinner: Airfryer roast chicken and garden beans - got a lot of beans coming from 6 plants.

Worst part of the day. Get a squishy feeling between my toes. Squishy it is - leech picked up from gardening

That leech likes you, :)
Three Orchids are beautiful

Orchids are just fab. Leeches are an occupational hazard in the bush - now in the garden as we have had steady rain all summer.

I dont think I could garden with Leeches. Im on edge with worms LOL
