Wake to a clear blue sky for Australia Day and a really hot day forecast. Next few data are forecast to be wet. So Inset my sights on doing a walk to check the local tracks for orchids. Cooked breakfast for my wife first. Then out the front door around midday. It is stinking hot
This is a ground cover flower and only about 5 mm long.
The root of this gum tree shows the tree is taking strain
First orchid is a bonnet orchid close to the start of the track
Excited to find the 4th colony of chiloglottis seminuda has started to flower - 7 plants here - last to flower
Love the detail and colour of the pink wax flower
Spider action - Golden orb weaver
Still quite a few flannel flowers
Did find a single dipodium variegatum flowering still
At the end of this track is a grassy level section before the track drops below. I had a hunch - I was blessed to find two midge orchids with one still in flower - good hunch.
First sighting of corunastylis fimbriatus on this track
A little lower down is a known spot for large tongue orchids - cryptostylis subulata with a few still in flower
More flowers in the other 3 chiloglottis seminuda colonies. Was excited to find a different chiloglottis flowering in a known spot - a few days early for chiloglottis diphylla. Note the calli form further along the labellum than we see on seminuda - example below
Was well worth going out in 37C heat. 6 orchids in flower with one new sighting on the track and one new season sighting in a known spot.
Dinner action: Cooked pizza outside on bbq. Did not want heat inside the house
Still hot at 8 pm but pizza was good.
Internet stuff: Made a review video on Tiffany Lambert new product. PC crashed as soon as I tried to save the video
PC (it is new) falls over when it gets too hot. I gave up and published a review blog without it - read that here
