My Actifit Report Card: May 6 2021

A mixed morning with rain out to sea and blue sky inland. Cooked breakfast for my wife - she was having a difficult day and chose to stay in the resort. I went riding

First stop Blackhead - RSM memorial right on the beach

Lovely beach with a big sweep to the headland

Did a bit of a zig-zag journey to check out a few spots.

Then headed down a track I rode in 2008 into the Khappinghat NP

Signs of orchids right where I parked the bike

Yet another park closed sign following the floods in April

Road has been rebuilt - it looked open even though park is closed. There were a few vehicles. I walked the road. No orchids. Only a few mushrooms - that surprised me. Autumn is mushroom time.

One looks a bit wooden

Lots of these little white flowers

Got back to the bike and chose to follow the flow of water from the orchids down the fire trail. Plenty evidence of storm damage but perfectly safe for a walker.

Did find an orchid in flower - worth ignoring the park closed sign.

Pixie caps orchid - acianthus fornicatus

Did find a few more flowers further down the track.

We drove into Tuncurry to buy some fresh seafood from fish co-op and some wine.

Went for a late afternoon walk down the beach to see if I could find orchids in the coastal heathland - no luck but a lot else.

Lots of these succulents - just closing as the sun dropped

Love the colour and textures

Warning sign about aerial spraying to control bitou bush. Bitou was introduced from South Africa in the 1800s to manage dunes- it has taken over

Tramped a lot of the dune edge like this

This flower on a bush - so it is not a daisy

One banksia in flower that I could get to

Was fascinated by the grass growing in the dunes - tufts connected with super long runners right to the high tide mark

Dinner: Fresh oysters and prawns/scallops in lobster bisque. Air fryer win.

Another informative post on the Australian coastal belt, the purple flower looks very much like the Natal Vygie
