My Actifit Report Card: September 8 2021

Wake to a clear blue sky spring day. Wind has stopped blowing after a few big days. That lines up the next garden chore for the week - start raking. Plan for the day is to walk a loop of the track I walked on Monday to find if an orchid has opened.

Instead of walking the same route, I cycled in from the top and walk the top half of the figure eight. This top half has not been good for orchids but I am hopeful. I did stop on the way down to check on the donkey orchid

Not quite flowering - two days. Someone has built a wall around the plant. Rode further down the hill.

Parked up the bike and started the walk. First section is a long walk along a fence on the NP visitor centre. Not much fun - next time I will park the bike on the road and hack in from there.

Walked the track and under the powerlines. No orchids - a few irises. View site across Apple Tree Bay and to freedom - we cannot go there which bugs me as I have a house up there. In winter we go every two weeks at least.

No orchids in flower until I got to the cross track overlapping with last walk. Bearded orchid is showing a little more

Not fully open but enough to ID as calochilus robertsonii - the tape and the eyes

Not far away was a new spot for caladenia carnea - pink fingers orchid

Always like finding a 2nd flower to know it was not a fluke

Did find an acianthus caudatus - mayfly orchid just finishing

Sign post time. I have walked in from the Regional Office cross track. Last time I walked up from Bobbin Head. Now I am going back up to Kalkari. I did pop down to see if the flying ducks are out. Not yet.

Once I got back to the powerlines, I walked under hoping to find a waxlip orchid - not seen them here before but it felt right. Sandy and grassy

And I did find one - glossodia minor

Close by was a big ant nest with a few guards - was not long before the army was mobilized. Hard to photograph as they do not stand still in defence mode

Walked up to back fence of NP property and then hacked along the fence to get back to track.

The net result of the walk from the top was one new orchid location of a known orchid. All the rest was on the cross track from below. Will do that from now as there is more scope there - bearded orchids and flying duck orchids and not long there will be rock orchids in flower

Nice loop ride with one big hill. I did find a way of avoiding the ugly hill on the Hornsby side and still stay in the 5 kms limit.

And I did get one new orchid for the season in a new spot and two new locations for known orchids one of which I have not seen on this track.

Somehow dithered the afternoon away. Had hoped to do some IM stuff. Seem to have hit a wall. Did another few square metres of clover clearing

Dinner: Chilli con carne on GF tortillas

Trade action. Bought some Japan stocks using stock screener. Did naked puts on a few US banks C, JPM
