Comerong Island orchids and walk : June 17 2025

Got a big blue sky with no wind to start. Was thinking of a bike ride day. Did the dog walking stuff. Got the investing post out - and then the big wind began

Went out late on the bike to walk Comerong Island. View to Coolangatta Mountain with river chopped by the wind

Tide is quite high - looking across to flathead corner

Was windy across where the river mouth would be if it went into the sea. The little terns (those white splotches) all standing facing the wind

Wind blown foam. Never seen wet sand blown up into ridges like this

First orchid walk in a few days - hoping to find greenhoods - one budding

Greenhood rosette - looks like nutans - will have to come back in a few weeks

Did find an orchid flowering - corysanthes fimbriatus

Another greenhood budding. This one is different as it has bracts between the bud and the leaves

Silver top mushroom

Fringed or bristly helmet orchid - evidence they are happy in sandy soil

Did find one other orchid type flowering - pixie caps orchid - low light and low patience for a good photo

Almost a composition - puffer mushroom, banksia seed pods and a few coloured leaves

Mushroom photos were a challenge - the light bits grab the light. Did delete a lot of out of focus photos

Walked a little further than last time. Fringed helmet orchid - corysanthes fimbriatus on the way back in a big colony

Light reflecting off small breaking waves. Did watch busy fish activity just behind the waves - birds busy too including a sea eagle. Too far for photos
