Lane Cove NP walk the long way : July 14 2025
Had an idea for a walk today. Catch a bus to a National Park access track to find a specific orchid seen two years back. Morning got a bit busy catching up on last week's investing stuff. Then headed uo to catch a bus with no bus ticket. Ibe way to get steps up - walk back - drink coffee - get ticket
Got off at a bus stop close to bush access. Last year I walked this track just after track mediation work - never a good time to walk looking for orchids
This access point isntoo close to houses for good orchids. Did find these. Acianthus orchid leaves
Australian native violet - one flower - got new meaning for me as my new granddaughter is named Violette
Bonnet orchid leaf - a few about
Mushroom staircase
Steely blue
A few grand trees and a blue sky
Next turn is to follow Great North Walk before doubling back to where the maroonhoods were two seasons ago
One side path follows the pipeline across the Lane Cove River - path access closed off by gates - long walk around to the riad crossing or the low level river crossing a few kms along. I guess it is important to have these assets under lock and key. That is not what the original idea was.
Seeded acianthus orchid - going to guess pusillis based on leaf size - no other flower spikes
A contrast of life in the bush - new life in a burned out grass tree
The walk does include sounds of building work from across the river - Macquarie Park high rises
Orchid testing time - two greenhood rosettes together - going to say not
Easier call - chiloglottis leaves plus a fallen mushroom
Orchids were close to this small creek crossing - normally orchids do not like their feet wet. Tells me this creek does not overflow much. Garden weed and feed is not good for orchids
Fire trail access sign just above the creek. I normally drive and park and walk in from here
Greenhood rosettes right on this corner - no buds from a known site
Mushroom on the way back. Plan is to walk home from here. No pedestrian crossing on the main road where I came out. Had to walk away from home to get tunnel access under the main road
Australian grass tree on the way down under the main road
Under De Burgh bridge. Know about this access from cycling from the other side
Traffic busy walk to access the track that joins with Blackbutt Creek and the way home
Woolsia pungens on Blackbutt Creek track
Fungal form on the steps coming up to St Johns Avenue - a few thousand steps home
Turned into a long walk. Next time will plan a public transport - walk - public transport path. Too long walking suburban streets.
Dinner: Thai Penang beef curry

All pictures are just amazing and wow 16k steps that’s really motivating 😄😄
I can imagine how exhausted you felt at the end. I haven't been able to beat my 12k record.
Violeta is a beautiful name for a woman.
Thanks for the ride. @carrinm
Needed a quiet day the next day - the track is pretty rough too. Have committed to do 7 Bridges charity walk at the end of October - for cancer charity in memory of my niece who died last week. Got some long walks needed to be able to walk 28 kms
My God, I am so sorry. Cancer is a disease that affects the whole family, and that grief never heals.
That walk has a beautiful purpose. I hope you achieve it.
My condolences. I pray to God for comfort for your family. I send you a hug. @carrinm 🤗
Thanks - it will be just fine - another 17k steps today

I’ve never seen a mushroom with a steely blue color
It’s so amazing
See them almost every walk. They go quite dull when they flatten out
Hard to photograph as the camera grabs the light of the shiny part
